Hey Lord Jesus Christ, please help me to be free according to John 8,32-36!!!!
The truth is that we *are* free already. The harder truth is that we keep re-enslaving ourselves, going back into the things we know bind us. The greatest truth of all is that He knows all this, took it into account ahead of time, and loves us regardless. The door to the cell is open. Walking out and staying out is up to each one of us to decide. Sounds like a no-brainer, but I know the struggle is real! Praying fro you, my friend.
Yes, you are absolutely dead on. The truth is we are free if we only choose Him and by choosing Him choose to live our lives in accordance with his ways every day of our life. This is hard because the Devil will truly do anything to keep us from following him. It is so very hard when one gets sucked into the sins that we are sucked into. I find peace and hope in Romans 8:6.
The greatest threat to oneself is giving up when caught in the grips living for the flesh. If we give up, we seal any chances of opening the gates of the Spirit. Think of the most peaceful time in your heart and that is a time when you were just getting a glimmer of the Spirit. There is so much more! It is worth the hard, hard, very hard times we must go through to live in the Spirit. And to do this must never give up, but constantly be turning to Him so we can inherit the freedom he has waiting for us. This doesn't mean we have perfect lives, but it does mean we "do" our "best" "every day" of our lives!
Those middle chapters in Romans are the heart of the Way of the Disciple. I cannot re-read them often enough!
Day by day, moment by moment, decision by decision, thought by thought. Those are the steps we take along the path. Not every step is made without a stumble or a fall, but we are faced the right direction and making steady progress toward our goal.
