Satan is very misunderstood. Someone has to shepherd all those damned souls through the punishments the divine law of karma has prescribed for their earthly actions. God appointed Satan to do just that, lovingly and gracefully. Satan is the foil for the divine image of God we have in our head: the idol of God that we worship and that keeps us away from the Kingdom of Heaven. Satan, like any good iconoclast, destroys all that is sacred and thereby reveals to us the true reality of the world. And for such a role- for willingly playing God's adversary (God and Satan worked it out between the two of them) and bearing all the hatred that position entails- he deserves to be honored.
