I would say that for some people they are a hinderence, while for others they help.
I find my sobriety counter essential. As the day count has gone up and up it is a very visible reminder to me of what I have acheived and what I would be throwing away if I relapse.

I'm nervous about those rituals. They're impressive and may become part of your identity so that you need to relapse so you can perform the ritual again.
Please stop replying to these, just report them. They're old accounts with weak passwords taken over by spammers. It's probably just a bot you are replying to.
You are probably ranting at a bot which has taken over a defunct user's account or a sleeper account set up years ago. A better way to rid the site of those posts is to click _Report_ under the post and let the mods remove the post and the hijacked user account.
