Relapsing More Than Usual - Any Tips?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Sep 2, 2020.

  1. So after staying at my parents house since March I haven't had much time or privacy to relapse often, which was a good thing. However, I moved into my private dorm this month and unfortunately took advantage of the opportunity to relapse often. I find myself with nothing to do since classes haven't started yet so there's structure to my day. Any advice guys?

  2. If you start feeling like relapsing, seek out company or talk to someone if there is anyone else in your dorm. Obviously exercising is a good way to pass the time, maybe reading a book on porn addiction. Stay away from places/devices/websites that you use to relapse and maybe get a porn blocker.

Get out. Walk. Run. Explore. Stay off devices.

I’m finding it difficult to get good sleep in this reboot. Is that normal?

I have those issues often at the start. Usually passes after a week or so. Make sure to work out or do something strenuous--helps to sleep better.

Ive had the no sleep issues. Fight it. Usually goes away in a few weeks with me. Ive relapsed a bunch. Just start over. One day etc etc. Soon the theory of marginal gains kicks in if you cant take hold. We gotta crawl before we walk brother.

You've received good advice in this thread.

Understand the sequence of events because they fall like a chain of dominos.

Alone -> Bored -> -> Internet Access -> -> -> Lock The Door ->->->-> Open Private Browser Window

You need to interrupt the chain as soon as possible. That means...

    1. Be in-public or with others
    2. Be offline or away from devices [i.e. turned off, far away, in other room, etc.]
    3. You do that by being busy with other tasks, hobbies, exercise, activities, work, study, etc.

  8. Yeah. My roommate tends to be in the common area a lot. I should hang out with him more often, thanks.

  9. I agree with what you said about the sequence of events. Classes haven't started yet so I don't really have a set routine I follow. However, I do recognize common situations whenever the urge is coming on so I will try to make a list of my own personal sequence of events.

Set boundaries about where and when you use material that you use to act out. If you need to use a computer, use it in a common area. If you tend to relapse late at night, set a boundary around that. It isn't THE answer, but it can help.

  11. I get that, but the hard part to me is sitting there wavering about either walking away or choosing to relapse. How do you deal with that?

Think quicker. Wavering is your self-sabotage addicted hypersensitive pathways firing for more brain damage please. Understand what the urges are (i.e. brain damage) and then instantaneously do something else. You need to be one step ahead of the cravings at all times.
