What does the Bible say about homosexuality?

A group for members of all religions, or no religion at all, to talk about religion

  1. So, I'll be honest. I've always struggled with the Christian stance on homosexuality. And to be even more honest, I wouldn't be surprised if I continue to struggle with it for the rest of my time on earth, especially as someone who experiences same-sex attraction myself.

But, at the end of the day, I trust God, and I want to understand his heart on the matter. I'm not sure I ever will understand it fully, this side of Heaven, but I trust that He knows better than I do. With every "rule" or guideline God sets forth, I have never failed to eventually see how right He is and to know that He doesn't just tell us not to do things to be a buzzkill and take away our happiness. He is always protecting and loving, even when we don't understand it or see it.

So anyway, I watched this 4-part series by Pastor Mike Winger on homosexuality, and it really helped me to understand better. It gave me more peace on the issue.

I would encourage anyone out there, if you are a Christian who struggles with this issue, or if you're a non-believer who wants to know exactly what it is the Bible says about homosexuality, to watch this series. This Pastor is very well-rounded, well-studied, and also very importantly, kind and compassionate.

This is honestly a really difficult thing for me to share, because I know many people will not agree with it at all, and might think less of me for it. But this series really helped me understand fully what the Bible says, as well as what science and statistics say on the subject, and I think it could help others as well, if they are interesting in hearing it.

Much love to everyone, and have a blessed weekend <3

  2. More like what one specific believer thinks it says. Two billion believers to go, good luck.

  3. Homosexuality
“For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women…” (Rom. 1:26–27).

I wish homosexuality was not a sin in need of repentance. Im not gay and my sin is no less. I have had some good gay friends and I have gay relatives. I believe in Gods word first and foremost.

  4. Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

I think as long as you don’t practice homosexuality, meaning you don’t sleep with other men or kiss them it’s ok to be gay the best is to just stay celibate but don’t take what I say as truth it’s just my opinion.

The most important thing though is to stay close to God and ask God to help you.

  5. Does the Bible say anything about homosexuality? Probably not since homosexuality as you understand the word didn’t exist at that time. Does the Bible give examples of what is believed it be immoral sexual conduct? Yes. Does this mean someone could be homosexual and not be sinful? Yes. Does it mean someone could be performing same sex acts and be sinless? No.

Why doesn’t the Bible say anything about homosexuality but does forbid certain acts? Well, in short, it’s because according to belief there are only two sexualities; One that is considered sacred and the other considered worldly. Why is that stance taken? Well it’s because someone’s sexuality is a moot point since heterosexuals are completely capable of committing same sex acts. That and because someone’s sexuality might not be a choice but what acts you do are always your choice.

Side note: Does the Bible say what books make up the Bible? ;)

  6. He very clearly laid out what it says, and also clearly laid out the fact that he has no bias one way or the other and is only seeking truth.

But you are entitled to your opinion.

  7. I agree, and the man in the video says the same, as does the Bible. Same sex attraction is no different than any other temptation, and God does not judge or condemn us for being tempted. That's beyond our control.

  8. That's just simply not true at all, in any way. Please watch the videos. That's why I put them there. I'm not interested in debating something that is clearly explained in the videos I shared. If you want to know truth, take the time to seek it out and listen.

  9. I should mention that I'm not going to be debating this stuff here. I merely wanted to pass along information. If someone actually watches all of the content and is confused and has a question, I'm happy to try to explain. But if you're not going to even watch the stuff, then I'm not going to rehash all of his arguements for you. I just simply don't have the time.

  10. Yep. The Gospel of Urmomfat clearly states that the only legit books are Job (to not discriminate against da Jooz), Revelation (since it's short and readable) and of course the Gospel of Urmomfat itself. All other so called books are fake news and heresy.

  12. I’ve watched the videos and nothing I’ve said contradicts what he’s said. I never said the writers of the Bible didn’t understand homosexuality but that they didn’t write about it. Mike proves this by only providing outside texts from Greeks and Romans regarding the nature of homosexuality itself and the understanding that the writers would have known about those texts. The Bible itself however doesn’t touch on the nature of homosexuality (design: whether someone’s born that way etc). The Bible only touches on same sex acts and that they are forbidden regardless of anyone’s circumstance: this means regardless of sexuality. Regardless of if someone claims they were born that way or not.

The Bible clearly forbids same sex acts but it does not condemn someone who is homosexual by nature (if they are that is) who lives a single celibate life.

Ps. Thank you for sharing Mike’s videos. I think they’re really good.

  13. You said that homosexuality, as we understand it, didn't exist back then. That's what I said was not true, because it's just objectively not true.

I think you're getting too hung up on semantics here. When you make a sweeping statement that the Bible doesn't say anything about homosexuality, that really confuses things, because that makes it sound like you're saying the Bible says nothing about same-sex sexual acts, which it clearly does.

I agree, as I said above as well, that the Bible doesn't condemn people for having same-sex attraction, but not acting on it (which also includes lust and pornography, of course, as those are already sins in and of themselves). If, in your mind, that means "the Bible says nothing about homosexuality" ... well then sure, I guess by your definition, I agree. But I think that's an odd and confusing way to phrase that view.

  14. Except it is.

It wasn't a taboo for a Roman to have sex with his slaves, male or female. Among Greeks, sexual acts between adult men and teen boys were part of everyday life. And women were allowed to lick each other all day everyday if they wanted to and no one cared. It wasn't gay, it was a hobby.

The concept of homosexuality (or heterosexuality) didn't exist until the modern era. That's why asking what the Bible or any other book from the ancient world "says about homosexuality" is dumb. You might as well try to analyze what the Epic of Gilgamesh says about nuclear power.

  15. Alright, whatever. I disagree, and I still think this is pointlessly arguing semantics instead of focusing on the actual point, but you are entitled to your perspective.

  16. Just curious but did you ready any of my reply past the “Does the Bible say anything about homosexuality? Probably not since homosexuality as you understand the word didn’t exist at that time” part? I don’t know how you could have been confused by my comment when taken within the entire context of my original reply. I feel like you just read that part and shot off on a tangent about not wanting to talk to people who do not bother listening to your entire post. Sounds like we’re more alike than you think in that regard. ;)

  17. I will admit to my fault. No, I did not read your original comment. That statement, to me, seemed clear that you didn't watch the videos, but I was wrong and misunderstood. I apologize for that.

    Best thing you will find.

  19. You mean can you be a sinner and be saved? the answer is yes.

Actually the answer is no. You cannot freely sin and be saved. You have been freed from sin and you are a new creature. I strongly suggest reading Romans 6-8 - it talks about that subject. Grace is not license to sin, it's a way to overcome sin.

    1 Cor 6:
Why does he say "do not be deceived"? Because he could foresee that so many would be deceived.
