    Hi everyone,

My name is Tom and I'm a recovering addict with over 4 years clean. I've done a lot of great work around meditation and 12 step recovery but have never been able to overcome my porn addiction. In fact, when I stopped doing drugs, I basically just switched over to porn full time. It has brought a lot of shame for me and makes me feel like I'm not living a life free from addiction. I so much want to be free from my addictions... I've tried this cite because a couple friends recommended it. My porn addiction has been getting progressively worse recently. I went from just viewing free sites to paying hundreds of dollars on cam sites. I just spent around $400 dollars on porn this morning :/

I'm hoping to get connected here and find a way to overcome this shit. I tried really hard to stop watching porn and masturbating a couple years ago. I went to SAA and SLAA meetings but none of that seemed to work. The longest I ever made it was one week and that was hardcore white knuckling it everyday... I have a strong determination to stop but that doesn't seem to work. How can I do this? It feels impossible..

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
    Tom

Hello Tom, you did not say what is your goal is, so I presume that you want to stop P addiction.
Start by getting your motivation on, you can do this by watching success stories on YouTube or on this forum, I think that has the best impact.
Continue by learning about all the befits you can get from this challenge, and share your difficulties and experience with your friends (that introduced you to this forum[I myself have 2 close friends I can share the progress]).
Then start avoiding porn, you might not success at first, but you will need to try again and again ,but most importantly is to not give up!
    best of luck!

  4. It's going to be really hard for you at first. But it will get better as time goes on you already know that from your previous recovery. You may want to disconnect your computer for now it sounds extreme but whatever it takes. I would start by encouraging new people in this forum every day. With your history and the success that you have had beating prior addictions you can offer a lot of encouragement. I think you will find encouraging others will benefit you even more.

  5. Hey Tom, happy to have you around!
I like to attempt to work out a practical approach to working through this addiction. Seems really good that you’ve done some work with meditation, that’s incredibly helpful (usually meditating whenever you’re having urges can be helpful).
That being said, I’d like to give you a couple of questions regarding the approach you’ll have to this: What usually triggers urges for you? What underlying motivations are driving your consumption of pornography? How do you think you could make this path easier, regarding strategies and habits you could pick up?
I’d recommend you start a journal so you can log whatever comes through your mind over the course of a day, see what needs improving and what you’re doing that’s positive. Also interacting with others seems to really help!
My PMs are open if I can help with anything. The best of luck to you, mate! Looking forward to accompanying you. :)

Thanks all for your encouraging words. I’m currently day 3 with no masturbation or porn. I decided to plan this around a trip I’m doing. Left my laptop at home.. so far it’s actually been smooth sailing. I’ve been busy doing family stuff all day. I am currently in my room w/ the door closed and did have an urge to masturbate to porn. I decided to read articles about the benefits of not doing it and the urge passed :) I’m honestly a bit excited to see how it affects me. It sounds like it has really helped some people in a lot of ways. Reading that stuff inspired me and it feels like a different motivation than when I tried last time.

Really appreciate you all taking the time to respond. Feeling good right now.

    Tom
