I've been a lurker of this forum for a while now. As I lurk, I always thought that I would probably never ever contribute to any nofap disccussions. But here I am, still struggling with immense brain fog, at this point I am already approaching the 6 month of my streak. With this thread, I hope that I could find someone I could relate to. Someone that have had brain fog, but had shown little improvement through a somewhat long streak.

I've done 6 years of masturbation. Most days masturbating once, seldomly twice. But, there were days when I abstained the entire day as well. Have little or no fantasies throughout the masturbating years. What I've done is rather modest comparing to most I've seen from the forum and reddit, yet I am plagued with brain fog. With nofap ongoing for almost 6 months, there were minimal changes in regards of the lifting of my brain fog. There were probably a few days where my memory and my cognitive skills have noticeably improved, but that was it. I am in a fogged state for majority of my streak.

With the brain fog of mine, my life is handycapped to a great degree — the walking-zombie description is no exaggeration. First off, my social skills is soaking wet, in depths down the drain. I have hard time comprehending conversations that slightly beyond simplistic, everything of which out of the realm of my current feelings and my barely retreivable fogged-up memory. Blank stares are inevitable as conversation enlongates and my mask of normalcy eventually unveils to other university students. Probably seen as an unintelligent being. A person that had got into a rather pretigious university by chance. And a person that is a waste of time and effort to be acquainted with. Me, trying to mask myself again, would probably give out my believes and perspectives. However, words blurping through my mouth, though, is worth probably just a bit more than nonsense. My brain simply could not retreive detailed memory, and is, for the most parts, inactive.

Such state of my brain presents itself fully pretty much in all other circumstances. I am living most of the days pretty spaced out. It is not unusual that I could not recall things I've done just then. Whenever I carry out my daily tasks, I would find them rather hectic and hard to solve at times. Something as simple as crossing the road poses a threat to me when my brain fog worsens. For me, studying is banging information to my brain, like how one may bang a book to a brickwall. It takes me ages to comprehend study material — when I do, I've probably forgotten the previous half of how or what I've done to comprehend the material. Hence, I have to understand the material from scratch yet again.

    Anyone have similar experiences?

Do you think going back to pmo will help solve this problem?

I've been excercising and meditating daily actually. As for my diet, I eat mainly vegatables, don't drink any soft drinks, no junk food either. Even actively trying to avoid the intake of anything cold nowadays.

Have good sleeping habits as well. On bed and trying to sleep by 10:30 pm everyday.

Might lie a bit towards the dehydrated side, however. Once, I've tried drinking 2 litre of water each day but my brain fog did not lift. That was before trying nofap though. Drinking more water is something I need to work on.

And no, I probably won't be going back to masturbation. Last time I did, all I had was a peeing sensation, like wtf??

Yes. Same here. Doing everything. Diet, working out, meditating, jogging, socializing, cold showers.

9 months in I have no memory, no concentration and a still a ton of other withdrawal symptoms: Fatigue, burning muscles, burning skin, eye floaters, blurry vision, visual snow, dizziness, sensitive teeth, insomnia, clogged ears, tight jaw/back/neck etc.

    You are definetly not alone.

I have been adhering to the same precepts, however I believe I have seen some major improvements, for example my reading skills. This is paramount for me as I love to read and it is part of my studies.

Have you ever you thought of quitting? It has passed my mind a few times these last few days, I think because I have been impatient and too eager to see fast results. Years and years of slavery cannot be wiped out in a few months. Maybe, a year?

Eat a healthy diet, drink lots of water, exercise, stay away from too much sugar and get out of the house.

These may be unrelated to nofap.

These are all symptoms of protracted drug withdrawal. Plus the sudden dreams which I never had for years. Now I dream almost every day.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_neuroscience_of_dreams (look under "Dopaminergic activation")

Damage to dopaminergic areas leads to loss of dreams and motivation. Which is exactly what I experience during my PMO years.

In addition I have wet dreams.

And I have been checked by doctors who found nothing wrong. This is also very typical for drug withdrawal e.g with benzos. Clueless doctors deny withdrawals which can last for years yet people keep reporting them.

Protracted withdrawal can last many months. In average it is between 6 and 18 months.

I posted this on another forum but I will post it here too:

I seem to have gotten every withdrawal symptom which you also can have with benzos:

    Visual snow: http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=68421.0

Dizziness / fatigue / lightheadedness / feeling like on a boat / flying:

Afterimages and other visual effects: http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=148535.10

    Bloating: http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=107652.0

Gum pain and bad taste in mouth: http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=129902.0

    Sensitive teeth: http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=61596.0

    Frequent uriniation: http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=166028.0

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The occurrence of all those different symptoms at the same time, which is also reported by long year drug (benzo) users, plus the wet/sex/porn dreams and sudden dreaming every day, they all point towards towards the drug withdrawal and not something else.

Yes. It is pure hell on earth (btw. "Hell on earth" is the most frequent phrase how people describe benzo withdrawal).

I tried to abstain a few times in the past. After every intense period of fapping I had withdrawals for 2-3 weeks like irritability, inability to concentrate, I even had the aching muscles/body. It always set in after about 3 days after the last fap. But it was nothing compared to what is going on now.

I started having some physical symptoms even during pmo. Which is due to tolerance withdrawal I think. I got to a point where I even found the genre I watched for years boring to watch. Then all of these symptoms crushed down on me.

So everyone reading this: This addiction can bring you to a place you dont even know it exists. I didn't. I thought I could quit at any time, go through 3 weeks of withdrawal and be fine. One day your body will break down and you will find yourself in hell. For some it may be sooner, for some later, but if you continue escalating with your PMO, chances are you will end up like this. During the last months i talked to a few people who experienced this. They all had to quit their job or university because of this for many months or even more than a year. This is why I don't like the words "challenge" in this forum. It's not a competition, it's a health issue.

Some things have improved but it is still pretty bad. I MO for some time 1-2 times/week though. It's better to not do it. No porn ofc.

The brain fog had alleviated a bit generally. Some days I still get slight headaches that increases in intensity when I try to think. Those are the worse – can't think at all and uncomforatble at the same time. I feel like I'm far from recovered though. Do whatever you can, be persistent with that and leave the rest to unfold itself for the better.
