Is it a slip, or a relapse?

Hi guys. I just M on my 38th day of being clean of P and M. I was hungover and I couldn't resist.

While 38 days has been my record so far, I feel like complete and utter shit now. Like I just threw those past 38 days out of the window, or flushed them down the toilet.

To me, tomorrow is back to square one.

My question is - should I consider this a slip, or a relapse, or what? Because to me, this is as bad as a relapse.

I am in no way experienced in this. But you can consider it a Major setback. 30 days of hardwork would have still made you better. Just to repent this, you should make your goal harder. If you were going on for 90 day PMO go for 110 days and dont reset your counter. But a second relapse..you may need to reset counter. That's what I would do

i would say reset your counter. This is only for you and no one else. I don't care if you have a 0 or 5670 days no PMO. But you are only cheating yourself if you don't reset. Who is to say the next slip you won't just send extend your target.

up to you but i would say reset don't let yourself down.

you are doing great and you will get there

Do as you feel is the best for you !
I mean if you care about your counter so much that resetting it would be triggering (like "I'm already at 0 so why not one more time") then don't ! Cause if you were drunk you didn't have a full control of yourself !
So stop drinking too much and get back to your feet

I would say that the main thing is not to blame yourself or feel any sort of self-disgust or self-loathing at all. You're a great person who is trying to improve themselves and that should be admired and respected. Yes, you had a relapse, but the fact that you are feeling down just tells me that you're wanting to improve, and that is the key thing. Reset your counter, and remember that all great journeys start with a single footstep. You can do this and so can I.

I view a slip is just doing 1 MO, then getting back on track. A Relapse is when the addiction takes over and you go back into full PMO mode for days or weeks.
The thing to do now is toss all your energy of getting recentered and not goto into a full relapse downword spiral of addiction..
1st, Good for you with your honesty and telling us whats going on. 2nd, do self esteaming acts to get into self care positive attitude. Hit the gym, clean your house, wash your car, etc.. 3 turn this slip into a learning growing opporrunity. Write out what led up to it and how you can change your behavior so it dont happen again. For me I had lots of slips and had to learn my triggers and learn to take counter measures when im in a vonurable place.. i actully quit drinking as i could not not PMO when drunk or high... maybe dont get trashed until you have a full reboot in place.. this jouney is all about discovering what works for you..

  7. It's a relapse. MO drains the body very much. You're not back to square one but it will take up to 2 weeks to revert to normal.

    Thanks for responding guys.

I was very close to relapsing even further (the mentality of "since I did it once, I might as well do it again before I restart tomorrow"), but didn't do it. Holding this urge back was actually harder than I thought, it is there right now as I write this.

But I don't want to. Originally, I planned to MO once a month, to clean the pipes, so to speak, then due to advice given here, decided not to MO at all until my body does it itself.

But still - no P for 38 days. At least something.

This is a good point, I noticed that for myself some time ago. In the end I worked out it is better to keep the whole thing as 'pending evaluation' for a couple of days, so than when you finally decide counter needs to be reset, you are already 3-4 days into new streak. Let's be honest, if you ask: 'I did this and this, should I reset my counter', most of the time answer is: yes.
