Can someone tell me about their successes with no porn?

I started trying to go PMO about a month ago but would relapse about once each week (still a much better improvement than the usual once a day before!) Still, as I wasn't being 100% successful I have decided to instead change to going without porn to start off (as I think this will be more achievable long term).

    I am hoping it will:

    - Mean I go to bed earlier and sleep better
    - Improve my relationship with my GF
    - Mean I have more drive in life

Can people tell me about their experiences with no porn? What positive changes did it bring about for you? Would be great to know to serve as motivation going forwards as I am resetting to Day1 no porn today

Not sure how long it's been because i can't see my counter- but once I gave it up, I'm still strong at this point (I went the first few weeks but was edging so I reset my counter).

Immediate benefits- I'm more focused at work (I work in a rather intense environment as a financial analyst). I'm not always in a rush to leave the conversation, with guys or girls...time has seemed to slow down. I have more free time to clean my place, research something edifying, or do something productive. My body is in way better shape from the same amount of gym time, and my skin is much more clear. I'm not as nervous around girls, and I can now see them looking at me. I'm more holistic, think things through, and just generally more chill. I've cut down drastically on weed and alcohol consumption. I'm more in tune with my emotions- think way more holistically, and have gotten much more empathy and foresight.

It's worth it, man. But like anything- if it was easy, then everybody would do it. Stay strong and I wish you success. But it's on you to be successful in this.

Your life will be better. This site is littered with success stories, and I can relate to a lot of them.

And when it gets intolerable- leave. Go outside for a walk (you'll probably walk by a hottie), get out of bed or your couch. Shut down your computer or finally install that update on your phone. Take that cold shower. Do some push-ups. Clean your kitchen. JUST LEAVE!

    You can do this.

I was porn free for 6 months before I found NoFap. I was able to focus on fitness instead of numbing myself with fantasies. I felt more benefits when I also gave up M, but eliminating porn is crucial. Remember that porn only hurts you and distracts you from creating the life you want. Best wishes!

I've been PMO free for about six months. I was trying to quit porn for at least 5 months. Usually going a week until I'd relapse. I eventually made it past the hard part (day 7-day 15) after some dietary changes and after expanding my knowledge on how to avoid triggers.
Since then I've mostly been the same, I don't have any anxiety, but I can't be fucked going out to hang with mates and I still have absoluty no libido. It can take months to improve, but pretty much after quitting I've experienced no anxiety and better sleep quality, but nothing else really. I'm sort of like an animal resting up whos trying to heal himself.

Don't just quick porn. I tried going without porn, but as soon as I masturbated, it always led back to porn. You'll never succeed if you don't give it all up

@ Wolves, thanks for your input!

Have a question for you - I do believe I can quit porn as I have been semi-successful in the past and this time I am committing 100%. The PMO thing tho seems unsustainable long term no? Is it really worth it?

I have a GF so obviously we have sex, but sometimes we are apart for a few weeks. What advantages does PMO really hold? I can see the point of quitting porn, but I don't see the point of stopping M & O as well?

Would appreciate your take on it as you have been PMO free for months now! (Well done)

MO will usually lead to PMO, thats it.. best thing you can do is to be PMO free for good. Good luck! :)

It's weird man, but the porn you watch, while only temporarily on your screen, is stored somewhere deep inside your brain. It persists and acts insidiously, affecting how you view women and the world in general. It is admirable to want to quit watching porn and that's a great goal to set for yourself. Here's something to consider:

Why did you come to the conclusion you wanted to give it up?

If it was to help yourself and make your relationship better then I can tell you that you will achieve this much faster and feel stronger effects by committing to the No PMO process (or No PM if that works better for your relationship). Quitting porn is part of it but you are not going to feel the physical effects (increased drive, energy, confidence) if you don't abstain from M and quite possibly O. Those produce chemical changes in your brain.

Now, if you don't consider yourself an PMO or Sex Addict then perhaps giving up just porn will be beneficial to your life but if you are, think of it in different terms:

What would you think of an alcoholic who sought change by just giving up mixed drinks? A gambling addict who only stops betting on college sports?

Whatever answer you come to, just try to realize that each part of PMO is a contributing factor to what led you to this community for insight and support.

Starting (awareness) is a tough point to reach so kudos to you for getting there! Don't sell yourself short!

And Smile; You Can Do It!

You just forget about needing to masturbate after about 20 days, I only got urges recently last week and thats why I joined this phone. For about 3 months I had no desire to masturbate, it just goes away. It's worth quitting it all together, as masturbation and organsm still plays with the dopamine receptors and you are more likely to relapse if you masturbate. I've tried, doesn't work. Needs to be abstained until 100% healed.

@Warrior84 and @BBWolf000 and Wolves thank you very much for your input!

Hadn't really thought of things that way, but I can defnitiely see how P and M are related and you need to cut them both out to get a full cure. I can see how MO will usually lead to PMO and that the porn is stored somewhere deep inside your brain. I don't want it to change how I view women and the world so I will definitely be making a change.

I want to feel feel the physical effects of increased drive, energy, confidence (thanks @BBWolf000) so have decided to cut out P & M (although my signature may not have updated yet). For me cutting out O is just too far as I am in a relationship with my girlfirend and can't see the harm in having sex as we have a great relationship and that is pretty natural after all. I also appreciate the "20 day" advice from Wolves. I know I will get there as I am fully committed this time, so it's good to know that is the first major hurdle!

Will be going no P&M from here onwards. The only O will be with my GF. Thanks all. Any other advice would be much appreciated!

@Rob12345 - Great - you are on the right path

In terms of your goals :

    - Mean I go to bed earlier and sleeep bettr - regardless of content staring at a screen just before bed doesn't help sleep - you can mitigate that with some blue shift apps that tweak the screen colours but good sleep is vital !

    - Improve my relationship with my GF - we evolved to react to real bodies not pixels - I've made progress with my wife so it helps but only just one element !

    - Mean I have more drive in life - definitely - although it has been a few years I remember S with my wife was gave me drive - I felt so good ! Conversely PMO had reverse impact. Doing NoFAP I now feel full of energy (as well as having iron wood) - maybe its just a testosterone thing but it certainly makes life more interesting.

I went 8 months once.. yes I had a lot on the line, but I had connection too. I may have got knocked down a few times, but I want that sobriety again. You got to make it priority.

@BBWolf000 well said and true "it's stored somewhere deep in your brain"

I think it manifests itself in ways that might not be noticeable to us when we're in it- but women especially can pick up on this vibe. Or maybe it's the increased energy, happiness, focus, thoughtfulness they pick up on.

When I smoked, I didn't think cigarettes smelled that bad. Now I can smell down the street.

@MrW , @jalls and @707out than you very much for your advice! Great to know how much energy you are feeling now and good to know about the blue shift apps (thanks for the shout there). Appreciate that you have to make no P & M a priority as well @jalls for it to work. @707out the smell of smoke analogy is very good!

Looking forward to racking up some more days without P or M and see how I feel!

Any other advice on a) how I make sure I stay on course, or b) the benefits of no P&M would be much appreciated!

    Thanks all

This was a difficult component of the reboot for me, because I was in the same boat as far as not wanting to remove O from my marriage/life. One thing to be aware of when on a no PM reboot is that you might start feeling resentment towards your SO since they are now the gate keeper of your O's. There will be days where you feel entitled or due an O but your SO doesn't want to be physical. This is very difficult. In situations like this, your brain can produce feelings of depression, loneliness, anger and a generally negative disposition towards your SO. I often had thoughts like:

"She has no clue what I'm going through. How hard this is. The suffering and strain I'm experiencing... FOR US!"

    "She doesn't appreciate me"

    and the worst:

"This is all for nothing. I gave up PM and my wife doesn't even care or want me. There is no point in continuing, I should just give up"

This kind of rationalization is your addiction trying to hold control over your life. Trying to get you to give up and keep living a life where it sits comfortably in the driver's seat. It's key to remember though that a big benefit of NoFap is that you are loosening the chains that PMO or Sex in general have on you. You don't need to O as much as your brain is telling you.

Find strength by persisting through the toughest parts and you will be so much better for it in the long run.

    1) Get off Social Media. It's one of those things that we rationalize as "What's the harm?" but in reality its all so fake man and does NOTHING to help you in reality. It just shows you on a daily basis how happy and successful everyone else in your "social circle" are. Aside from the possible fantasy triggers (attractive women/men), it reinforces a dependence on digital satisfaction and gratification. You need to spend your time and energy finding those things in your real, daily life.

Another thing that really helped me was push ups. Sounds dumb or basic, and I'm no workout fiend myself, but it really helped to channel my brain and energy when I felt dominated by sexual thoughts. I just started with 10-20 each time throughout the day. Now I'm up to 100+ per day and feel awesome about it!
