I'm about 3 days into no porn/masturbation. And I can't sleep. I can remember sleep problems and exhaustion being part of the withdrawal proccess. I'm guessing this is normal but has any one else experienced this or been able to describe this in more depth?

  2. Hey,

Oh yeah! Insomnia is a big problem for me. For me, and this may seem obvious, I need to turn off the TV, put down the book, get ready for bed and lay down in it. I might not fall asleep having done that. But, the chances of falling asleep go way up if I'm in bed with the lights off versus in the living room binge watching something on NetFlix at 2:00am

Also, the obvious - I've cut down on caffeine (one cup in the morning), tried to cut down on naps (oddly I can fall right asleep in the afternoon, but not at night), and no computer late at night (not even NoFap) as the light from the computer tricks the brain into thinking it's daylight.

Lastly, my doctor prescribed a sleeping aid. But, I don't like to take it. Stubborn? Maybe. But, it makes me a zombie the next day and it seems a devil's bargain.

Remember that driving while sleepy is as dangerous as drunk driving. So, be careful with that.

Good luck - it's worth it! pmo will warp the chemicals in your brain, kill your body and spirit. Some nights being hard to fall asleep are worth it!

  3. Any drastic change in your routine can also cause sleep difficulties. your mind and body has to adapt to nofap. This could take awhile, so the best thing to do is develop good sleep hygiene and stick to it. I would advise against sleep meds because they can cause more problems than they're worth. Sleep deprivation can be hell. I've been dealing with it for years. Best advice I can give is to not get frustrated as this can really exacerbate the problem. Just keep calm and carry on and eventually you'll be rewarded with restful sleep.

I had it too early on. It did get better after the first week or so. Stress, worry, constantly on edge because you're watching yourself, not relaxing probably all contributed. It did get better though.

Exercise can help - if you are physically tired, not than just mentally, then it's easier to sleep. I keep trying now and then to get into meditation, without much success, but the one technique I learnt early on was good for quieting the mind and trying to sleep. But mainly it took time. Don't over-stress about it after only a few days, since that just makes it worse (can't sleep cause I'm worried that I can't sleep). Look on it as a sign that something is happening, which is good, and as a minor unpleasantness to put up with as you very better, as there is with any sickness.

(I know insomnia isn't a minor unpleasantness but a major problem in the long term, I'm not minimising that, but if it's only been a few days then it might well go over in a few more so don't assume it's a major problem until it is)

I used to M & O everyday before I went to sleep. It became my sleeping pill for most of my life. If I woke up during the night and couldn't fall asleep, guess what I did...So it wasn't easy falling asleep when I started no PMOing. Initially I went to sleep late until I was good and tired, and I eventually fell asleep. Now I can fall asleep earlier, but still not as early as I'd like. If I wake up during the night I try deep breathing. If that doesn't help I listen to a boring audiobook. Falling asleep is getting easier as time passes and more natural for me.
    So be patient :)

Here is a trick that worked for me in most cases, before going to sleep turn off all lights, no laptops, no phones! Breathe slowly, start counting your exhales from 300 to 0.
