Relapsing after 34 days of Nofap

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by MasturbatorandCommander95, Sep 1, 2014.

  1. After having gone 34 days without pmo, I relapsed. The
best course of action to take now would be to not give in to the post-relapse binge. Should I restart my badge or just not count this day and continue normally? I saw nofap reddit post in which op said that a relapse was not a complete reset. Is it good for fapstronauts to customize their NoFap
    rules and regulations?

  2. Well, there are no rules and regulations except those you set for yourself !

But, first of all: A streak of 34 days is great, so book this on the "plus" side of your life!
I had a similar streak this year, and it was one of the best times in my life! So, see the positive side!

Then, for NOW, try to recover and to catch up. As you say, often a relapse leads to more relapses (binging), so focus now on catching up.

I personally don't like the counter so much, because it tends to ruin the overall picture. Every reset makes you look like a loser, while in fact you make overall progress.

Possibly make a BIG picture, give it 34 green marks and one grey mark.

And try to learn from the relapse. A relapse just tells you that you have not been attentive enough. So what happened in the time before the relapse? There is a big rooted reason for PMO, and this is where we should work on.

this is not a failure. this belongs to your recovery-process. you have been 34 days abstinent - in this time your brain/mind cured itself for sure. imagine how many porn-movies you would have watched in this time.

in my opinion restart yor badge - start a new streak and beat 34 days.

    good luck.

    Whatever you do...do not binge.

Your progress is not lost at all. I know exactly how you feel right now, you brain will start to rationalize and try to convince you that you did loose all your progress so "what the hell right? Fuck it, i'm gonna binge". This can last for up to 2-3 days.

    Don't binge.

The best thing I could recommend you right now is to get rid of the counters and stop counting for a while, focus on others areas that you need to work on. You can set a counter again later if you want.

I chose to get rid of my counters after a relapse on day 47, it was the best decision I made. Now I'm around 45 days clean, time went by real fast because I was focusing all my energy on my new routines.

    Good luck bro

Relapsing and not binging is also a kind of victory to be proud of so maybe that can be a supplementary goal.

  6. Very true, good analysis. That's why I also don't like that kind of counter. It makes you look like a big loser when you relapse once in a month, while in fact you made real overall progress. And when you feel like a loser, then you binge. The constant resetting of the counter is like sysiphos who is rolling the rock up the hill.

Yes, indeed, the real solution is to look forward and not just to focus on counting and abstinence. Instead, focus on NEW BEHAVIOUR, new routines, living a really meaningful life.

My biggest streak was this spring when I was TOTALLY FORWARD. I had a vision, I was committed, and I had no "Plan B". This way, I went for about 7 weeks. Only then, I lost attention, and I fell back into old behaviour. Therefore, the most important point is to have a real focus to new things and to go on forward all time.

  7. Wow, I didn't expect this much replies! Anyway, guys, thank you so much for the praise and support, it mean a lot because I have been trying to stop masturbation for almost 7 years of my life and it is just horrible. Masturbation for some people, like me, was harder to stop than it was to stop smoking. I wanted to keep my streak and not count this day but I have learned new things from you guys and I will reset it but also put more of my time and energy into bettering myself, learning from past experiences and being more harsh because I edged a few times during my previous streak and it led me to relasping. Edging is your worst enemy! I have also been able to sucessfully abstain from binging. I woke up with a hard one this morning and my brain was telling to do it because why not? I brushed it off and went about waking up and preparing for the day. Again, thank you guys so much for the tips and the praise! Good luck to you all on your nofap journies!
