    Hi. I'm giving NoFap a shot. I'm 46, male, single, and started looking at porn 40 years ago. I would sneak into my dad's closet and look at his magazines. I started fapping before my body could produce sperm. I know that PMO has messed up my ability to be in relationships.

    I've tried quitting many times, and tried many things. The biggest challenge is waking up after midnight and being unable to get back to sleep. The worst was being awake 3+ hours, but it's usually 2 hours. I fap so I can go back to sleep. Most times it works. The bad nights (awake for 3+ hours), I keep fapping after orgasm so I can become exhausted and finally get to sleep.

    Things I've tried so I could quit fapping and/or sleep better:
    • SA;
    • heavy dinner, light dinner, no dinner before bed;
    • meditation / prayer;
    • fasting;
    • alcohol / no alcohol before bed;
    • caffeine / no caffeine before bed;
    • staying up very late / going to bed extra early;
    • reading / not reading before bed;
    • ... I'm sure there is more.
    I have 2 or 3 good nights per month. A good night means I wake up, but I can go back to sleep in about 10 minutes. I've been unable to recreate the good nights, so I started a sleep and meal journal to keep track of this.

    I think the longest I've gone without fapping was about a week, but that was years ago. This week I went 3 days. Then I had a bad night and fapped. That was 24 hours ago.

    I expect to fail many times, but I'll keep trying. I watched videos about the benefits of NoFap, and it gives me hope.

    Thanks.

    Hi @MGB, I've been looking at porn ever since I was about 7-8 years old myself, and, well, high-speed internet porn has done me absolutely no favours at all. I'm only 17, but I've been trying to quit for about 2-3 years now, and tried many different habits too, except none have worked for me either. Longest I've never gone without fapping was probably about 4 weeks or so, but then binged massively after that. Wish you all the best.

    Thanks, Username1021.

    I figured out my strategy:
    • the porn is gone (easy).
    • the toys are hidden in the closet and will go to storage the next time I leave town.
    • I'll read a book (probably non-fiction) if I wake up and cannot return to sleep.
    • I'll give myself rewards for achievements (see below).
    30-days PMO-free = an iPad. My laptop is 5+ years old and has a malfunction that I cannot fix or replace. I wanted an iPad earlier this year, but could not justify it due to paying off debts. I'll save the cash to buy this; no instant-fix allowed by using credit to buy it.

    90-days PMO-free = an iPhone. This is a want, not a need. Therefore, I'm making this a longer-term reward. Same rules of cash (not credit) applies.

    Bonus ... I can think of the iPad anytime I have erotic thoughts. This will be a good distraction technique.

    Next step is to create a journal for my progress.
