I gave up video games, anyone else?

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by Deleted Account, Nov 30, 2017.

  1. Since starting my journey with Nofap way back in January I have given up Alcohol, Meat, Dairy, PMO, and video games. I was addicted to all these.
I don't miss any of them now except video games or rather a video game. World of Warcraft.
Has anyone else given up an addicting video game?

  2. I've kind of lost interest in gaming over the past couple of years primarily do to the fact that I havnt been impressed at all with these current gen games. I actually picked gaming up again. I dont think im replacing addictions as Im talking about 3 1 hour sessions per week. I've gotten serious regarding abstaining for the last couple weeks so I've gotten so much done and still have alot of time on my hands. I'm all about Rainbow 6 Seige right now.

I stopped playing video games due to school. Youtube was more of a problem for me and I deleted the app off my phone a couple weeks ago. It's blocked on my laptop so the only place I can access it is on my desktop. My video games are also on my desktop and I haven't played in a few weeks. I find it strange how giving up video games and YouTube was so easy compared to PMO despite the fact that I've always consumed much more YouTube videos than I ever did with porn videos. I was never seriously addicted to PMO yet I used to consume several hours of YouTube and video games a day for years. That just goes to show how hard nofap is.

  4. YouTube is a killer for me too. I can get on a marathon for hours. Good for you!

  5. You are doing great. I can't just do 3 1 hr sessions a weeks. So kudos to you.

I love siege. But I haven't played in a month and lost interest in it because my anxiety affects my reaction time.

  8. Games are addictive as all hell. I still catch my brain trying that, I'm gonna play 3 more games then quit but I've been snapping myself out of it. I used to waste whole 1/2 days on games. I dont cry over the past but between the time I wasted on PMO and Video games, I could seriously have gotten another degree, learned another martial art and finished 2 albums.

  9. Yeah seige is the shit. I havnt been impressed with many of these new titles but I enjoyed that one. When you dont play well it can frustrate you and leave you with a bad taste for real.

  10. Video games was a huge time sink for me. Playing for hours and hours on end until the sun came up and then having to leave the house at 8 am to go to work is insanity. When I played games, I was more of a Skyrim scientist than a real world scientist (I work in R & D). It's been well over 5 months since I've given up games (I gave everything away) and I'll never go back to them again. It depresses me to think how little I valued my time.

I sold my console a few years ago due to the fact that it was taking too much of my valuable time, I was spending 5 hours almost everyday playing. I have goals that I want to achieve and I couldn't see myself achieving them if I had kept the console.

  12. Yeah video games are quite addictive man!! I completed all Arkham games, Far cry 3 & 4, both the Tomb Raider (latest) reboot games, God of war 3, The Last of Us, Max Payne (all 3 games), Hitman : Silent Assassin & Absolution, Uncharted series(all 4 games) to name a few!! Who can forget counter strike condition zero & 1.6 for fucks sake!! Used to go daily at a cyber cafe to play it !! I've been playing fifa since like 14 years, started with fifa 2001 & currently on fifa 18 !! Have spent so many years on gaming just to feel good !! Currently playing fifa 18 occasionally but yeah just like P, gaming also affects dopamine so yeah we can relate its addictiveness!! My physical activity reduced dramatically when I got my desktop PC, then console, laptop & inbetween my cellphone with wifi !! These things actually made me more of a sedentary person earlier used to play outside but now I find it hard to get back to that physicality..

I was addicted to WoW for the longest time. I finally broke the hold once I played Panda-Land. I refuse to go back. I still play games quite a bit, but I wouldn't say I'm addicted. I could just as easily walk away and read a book or watch a movie/tv. I've never touched drugs or nicotine and I refuse to drink. My addiction is why I'm here fighting the good fight with you fine people.

  14. I have given up my PS4 and Fifa for the past 6 months which is one of the hardest things I've had to quit. I was hooked on the game's Ultimate Team feature.

Also given up gluten, dairy, meat, porn. Very happy, just need to kick MO.

  15. I know man, I dont play for a few days but when I do I end up playing 1 on 1 with my bro for hours.. Its like to prove that I'm better than him so we go on & on & on.. Btw congrats on kicking all the bad habits!!

  16. Never had a problem any of these things except for PMO. As a hunter I will continue to hunt and eat meat, but I don't consume much I eat a healthy balanced diet, same goes for alcohol Im never intoxicated, I brew my own beer, mead, cider and wine. And as for video games, having worked in game development im really picky when it comes to games cause I break them down into every small detail, so I don't spend much time playing games cause of the fact, I mostly replay games for nostalgic reasons as well as if a really good game comes out, I never sit down and play a game just to play games it has to be real good.

When I think about a camera taping me gaming for 20+hours a week and someone watching the other side I become disgusted with myself. Same with pmo

  18. Thank you for posting so encouraging words !! I would really like to kick the habit !! I rationalize that once in awhile is good thats my addict mind talking.. What were the steps that you followed in quitting??

I gave up a lot of video games, main ones being world of warcraft, league of legends, and diablo 2. I have some great memories of those games with friends but when they start getting in the way of life it's time to let them go. Now I have a lot more free time to have a better diet, go to the gym regularly, and study more, much more room for better replacement habits, if I want to relax I'll watch an interesting series instead. I often overused them to hide from pmo, got like a 10 day nofap streak from playing world of warcraft wotlk everyday back in april, geared my paladin pretty well with all that nofap energy.

  20. I don't play them right now as I'm doing other hobbies instead. But we all need hobbies. If yours is video games that's fine. Moderation is the key for anything and any hobby.
