Hello everyone, I'm new here. Actually amazed I found this site; never knew so many were in the same position as me!?

So tonight my external HD has failed to boot up. I can't think why but it's just flashing and clicking. I've considered trying to recover my stash but then I also thought "maybe this is a sign" ?

I know I don't/ didn't have the biggest collection out there but honestly I've got approximately a thousand videos amounting to well over 400gb. I feel out of control when I think about how many hours I've wasted downloading all those pixels.

So my next move has been this. I've deleted every picture I have but the "real" stash remains untouched on my external HD. Should I completely destroy it now I've been given this lifeline and if so what's the best way to do it?

Good to know I'm in the company of those who can hopefully relate. :)

If you're ready and want to give this a go, it wouldn't be a bad idea to destroy that external drive, or at least if you're reluctant to do that, store it away. Can't say my stash was ever that big, but that's probably by no means the biggest. I'm sure there are some poor buggers out there with terrabytes of the stuff. Don't be attached to it, it brings us nothing but harm, buddy. Maybe it was a sign the drive failed.

    Best of luck, mate.

Yeah, I am reluctant to delete the porn from my thumb drives too. I have just two or three movies stashed. The mentality is, well, if/when I relapse I am going to do it up right.
I wouldn't want to relapse with shitty or average porn, right? Just the good stuff.
I guess this is not a healthy thing. It's kind of like a reservation. Maybe if I delete the stuff,
I will take a load off my mind (pun intended).

I used to be a dedicated collector. I have a particular fetish and would spend lots of time looking for those perfect videos, gifs and pictures. I also had everything neatly organized and even did a check-up to delete any videos/pics that weren't of a really good and boner inducing quality. So only top notch stuff for me, about 60 GB of it total.

Then I put it all in zip. Then encrypted by using TrueCrypt. This helped back then but not so much as I could still mount the TrueCrypt file and navigate in zip file to extract that one particular video I was craving at the moment.

Then I decided to detach from this collection completely and I put that TrueCrypt file into another zip archive. I've put some random password on that archive and stored it in yet another TrueCrypt file. Then I stored that archived TrueCrypt file into TrueCrypt file (talking about inception!). It means if I were to gain access to any of the files, I would have to mount the TrueCrypt file and extract the 60GB archive in order to mount the right TrueCrypt file. Extracting 60GB takes a looong time unless you have a SSD disk. I don't.

Recently I thought it was about the time I take my detachment further so I deleted those files altogether. I still have a copy on some external HDD that I normally never use. In fact I'm not even sure on which one is it since I have couple of those and I rarely use them.

The much bigger threat to me now is the ever existent access to just as arousing fetish videos on the internet. I have a K9 but it doesn't work once you go 'Incognito' in Chrome or just type in the admin password to unlock 'Pornography' category or whatever that is. The most reliable and effective tool to stop watching porn is and always will be our brains.

Although putting lots of limitations on my 'hard earned' collection has definitely helped me to detach from it. I haven't seen it since perhaps 6 months now and guess what, I can go for another 6 that much more easily. In fact I'll be moving to another country in 2 months and taking only necessary stuff so it'll probably the time to either don't take my external HDD or take it by delete the archives for ever.

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

I actually destroyed my HD this evening. Completely ripped it to pieces. It feels great to cleanse myself of it. When I think of the hours I wasted downloading everything and just being unable to pull myself away from just pixels. I think I've made the right decision.

Already been one day without PMO but I am questioning why we're all doing this? Is it simply to feel more focused and confident or are there other benefits too? I've set myself a 100 day goal but the most I've ever managed before now is maybe two weeks tops and that's usually when I've been on holiday away from the comp.

What are your reasons for joining nofap peeps?
