I'm sorry, IGY, I tried to google it but could not find anything specifically on pornstars and PD at the moment. But I read it somewhere. At any rate types of PD (histrionic, borderline e.g.) are usually hypersexual, so it would be surprising if pornstars did not recruit from PDs.

I know loads of people with those personality disorders and they are not hypersexual at all. I find it very surprising that most porn stars would have such personality disorders.

My thesis is this: personality disorders are relatively frequent (maybe up to 10 percent or population); some are related to hypersexuality, some aren't; voluntary sex workers come mostly from the former group.

Unfortunately I can't find at the moment the sources of my thesis, so now I start to doubt it. I thought I had read it at Judith Reisman's website but no. The closest I could find at the moment is from 2008 article:

"ABSTRACT: The authors summarize four studies on dissociation among women in prostitution, and discuss clinical aspects of the relationship between trauma, dissociation and prostitution. Dissociative disorders are common among those in escort, street, massage, strip club and brothel prostitution, and are frequently accompanied by posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, and substance abuse. These in turn are linked to high rates of childhood physical and sexual abuse, and to violent victimization while in prostitution. The existing data suggest that almost all who are in prostitution suffer from at least one of the following types of disorders; dissociative, posttraumatic, mood or substance abuse. Further research to refine and replicate these findings is warranted."

But this article does not speak specifically about pornstars and it does not speak about standard personality disorders (dissociative identity disorder is usually not classified as personality disorder). So that't not it.

Thanks for the probing question! What experience with personality disorders do you have?

I take no issue with prostitution. I get the concept, that it's a business transaction. She gets paid, you get yours. All the chips are on the table.

However, in a relationship that is just cheating.

I only been with one whore. I was in Basic Training and she only wated sixty bucks. Done and done. No regrets. But I was single. I didn't commit my mind and body to someone else.

So chill with the whores while you are in a relationship unless you have consent.

Imagine if your girl came to you and said, "I just had sex with a guy. But it was cool because all he did was buy me some drinks at the pub and I sucked him off in the bathroom and afterwards screwed him in the parking lot. But hey, it's cool, it was only sex. No emotions and I still love you."

I highly doubt you'd be content with thst.

The illusion that it's a business transaction, you mean. Statistically, it's very rarely as simple and direct as you put it. It is meant to look like that, though. Keeps business rolling if all you, the client, see is a simple "business transaction". Behind the scenes, though, it's often much, much darker.

Sexual intimacy is nothing you should pay for. It's a holy moment between two lovers. No decent man or woman should ever go to a prostitute. It's just disgusting, shameful and immoral.

  9. Well, I sign that true sexual intimacy is a "holy moment".

But still, I dislike words like "shameful" and "immoral".
Because exactly the use of these words are causes of our whole PMO addiction.

With these words, you are judging human emotions. It is like saying "boys don't cry" to a child. It leads to the fact that we begin to hide our emotions and live them up in a hideaway; for example with looking porn or with going to prostitutes.

Ehm sorry? How exactly did you come to that conclusion?

It's shameful to go to a prostitute, that's a fact. It's unnatural to be ashamed if you've visited a prostitute. Could anyone tell their own mother that they visited a prostitute? I don't think so. It's not my opinion, it's facts. Paying for sex is shameful, no matter how hard you try to go around it.

And it's immoral of a variety of reasons I don't want to go into right now.

I don't think it's the shame or immorality of an action that causes it. That's kind of oddball thinking. I do believe that guilting and shaming a PMO addict isn't going to do him any favors, though.

Strong bro science, feminism and white-knighting in this thread. For your information:

1.) Not all men are so lucky and can easily get a girlfriend. So they have no other option than prostitution.

2.) In most of Europe, prostitution is legal. The claim that prostitutes are forced into their profession is utterly ridiculous (exceptions of course).

3.) Studies show that crime rates have dropped significantly since Germany (where I come from) legalized prostitution over 10 years ago.

4.) The same studies show that STD rates dropped by over 70% in the same time.

5.) How does prostitution "objectify" women more than a porn clip, a Hollywood movie or a TV ad? And how are men not objectified in the same way?

  14. But this is exactly what I mean! Who of you is really OPENLY talking with your mother about your sexuality?

Let me guess: Those who do, are no PMO addicts. Those who do, do not go to prostitutes.

Do you understand me? To be "ashamed of your sexuality" is A ROOT CAUSE of PMO addiction.

  15. Very right. Even more: Shame and guilt ARE the roots of the PMO addiction.

In the home of my childhood, it was a judged as a kind of weakness to show emotions, or wanting to cuddle, etc. And of course no word about sexuality, except that "it is a perversity".

So: Take away the bounds of shame and guilt, enjoy emotions and sexuality, and eventuelly, the urge to PMO or to go to prostitutes will fade away.

Wait, so because some men "can't get a girlfriend", they have absolutely no other choice but to go pay for sex? Have you considered that men don't actually need sex to exist? A healthy sexual life is not sharing your body with lots of other people, especially people who have in turn shared their bodies with other people, and so on. A healthy sexual lifestyle doesn't even have to include sex. The sacredness of sexuality in any case has been watered down and warped.

I'm well aware of what Germany and other European countries do, but that doesn't mean that they should. The statistics you claimed have no basis for causation, either, so that's moot. And just because prostitution is legal doesn't mean that women aren't being used or abused, or haven't been trapped in those circumstances. In fact, they are being used every day: they trade their body for money like it's some sort of commodity, like meat.

The fact that such things don't register anymore over there shows me just how immoral and backwards a country like Germany really is. Over here in America, we still fight to value and protect our women.

Hilarious! You really made my day. Another arrogant American without a passport telling me about my own country. Let me guess, you spend your whole day watching Fox News believing the propaganda that America is the greatest place on Earth against all evidence.

Just for your information, the only thing America is #1 is the number of incarcerated citizen per capita, the number of people who believe the world is 6,000 years old and the number of people who can't find their own state on a map.

I didn't intend to insult any decent American with this. But calling the country "backwards" that registers half of the world's patents is just utterly ridiculous.

That's what amused me the most; thinking that prostitution ceases to exist b/c it's formally banned.
