One day shy of 100, had to reset counter

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Dec 18, 2017.

  1. really really stinks to make this post guys, but I've unfortunately stumbled to the point where i need to reset.

surprisingly, I am not as guilt-ridden as I've been in the past. I think that's because I really feel like this bad habit is a part of my past. I was on a 950+ day streak, then a 75+ streak, and then nearly a 100 day streak. In the past I've had a really hard time after stumbling, to the point where I've binged as a result of feeling depressed and ashamed. That did not happen this time, I simply got back on the horse.

I know I'll get back to 100 days and beyond. this is a mere setback, but it still really stinks. I feel like a smoker who has successfully quit, but just took a whiff for no good reason. any encouragement is appreciated. I am thankful for such an awesome community of people that don't judge but simply encourage.

  2. Man, if I can even become half of what you are right now....meaning what you have achieved...my life will completely change. You are an inspiration, period.

Please, please, please don't binge. (I know you won't, just saying)

Grow from the past (even the good things that happened) but grab hold of 'Now'. 'The Now' is always evolving.

Not to be rude, but how did you fuck up a 950+ streak??? I know I would be PISSED if I blew that. Heck, I'd probably just give up on myself after that.

your doing good work, as long as you don't binge you should still retain much of the benefit from your streak. i just blew my first streak, which was only 26 days. just got to remember what kept you going all the days in the first place.

  5. Not rude at all, actually a good question.

To be clear, this is a lifelong battle. Anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. Whether it's 90 days, 900 days, or 9,000 days, we still have our moments of severe temptation. That's part of the reason I try not to put too much emphasis on streaks. This battle never goes away.

Ask a smoker who quit decades ago if they are still tempted every once and awhile to whip out a cigarette (especially if they're stressed).

Great work for being honest about it. Progress not perfection. The good thing is you stick with the plan and commitment you made to yourself.

I agree with David, the confidence that is evident in your post is amazing. I think the fact that your not allowing yourself to feel shame about this probably shows where your at in your journey. Thanks for the courage to post.

Totally agree with those two, your determination and general attitude are really inspiring. You can and will surpass any goals you could possibly imagine :) Just always hold on to two things:
    1) The shame you felt when you relapsed
    2) The pride you feel when you resist the urges
Remember the difference between those two feelings and the difference between what causes you to feel them and you will get through this. I believe in you.

Deth, FANTASTIC comment you made: Never forget the shame of the relapse. I had a couple of resets....but one relapse....and I felt so ashamed. As time marches on and the relapse grows smaller in the rear view mirror, there is a tendency to forget.

    Thank you for the reminder!

  11. Wow you guys are awesome, thank you so much for the encouragement. Thank you all for standing side by side in this fight!

Yikes, you really are an inspiration. i have gone 21 days and relapsed this morning. feel so tempted to binge right now. This is the hardest part. the grinding depression after breaking a streak, then hit by another wave of lust
