Sexual fantasy as a way to fall asleep?

Does anyone else have experience with or advice on the habit of using sexual fantasies as a way to focus the mind and fall asleep?

I feel like this is counterproductive to NoFap, so I'm interested to hear if anyone has changed up this nightly ritual into something else like meditation or focusing the mind on something different.

I have a very active mind, so as soon as I hit the pillow and close my eyes, that's when my head starts running like a treadmill with endless, random trains of thought. So to slow it down, I'll create a sexual fantasy in my head. I traditionally come up with a whole backstory / build-up to it, and usually in that process I wind up falling asleep, most times before it even gets to the "actual" sexual part. Anyone out there have thoughts on this?

Are you saying you don't act out and it's strictly mental?

  3. Hey! I have exactly the same thing. My mind is really active all the time and I always had a hard time falling asleep. My mind just keeps going back on certain events and I'm like rewatching and feeling things. Sometimes I need 1-2(in extreme cases even more) hours to fall asleep. I noticed too that if I start to create a sexual story while I try to fall asleep I don't get to the sexual part. In P I prefered background stories so I always do the same in my mind and I just fall asleep. Good to hear that there is someone else having the same experience.

Yep, exactly. To clarify, it's strictly mental.

Okay, yes, I can relate to this, and it does help me sleep (strictly mental) at times. I remember using this after a long day of studying hard for an exam the next day, hence was a little stressed to sleep. As far as getting rid of this habit, its tough for people who have a tendency to overthink, I would say maintaining a good sleep hygiene is the key, stuff like exercising to make you tired enough to sleep, cutting out caffeine, warm bath/cup of green tea before sleep etc.

Yes, @Introvert24 I have a strong tendency to overthink. And @KanekiKen it often takes me a long time to fall asleep, sometimes hours. Transporting myself into a fantasy forces me to create a storyline and fine-tune it, reviewing details over and over again (almost like counting sheep in a way) which I guess relaxes my mind because it's on a linear path. Sometimes it's not even sexual at all, but more like an adventure in a different world or something.

  7. Yes, sometimes I start the fantasy like okay it's going to be a sexual one, but when I got into it my mind takes over control and creates something totally not sexual. Idk what this is but it helps to fall asleep faster for sure.

I can identify with this. However I have tried to move away from it as it only fuels the flames. I have used meditation and in particular a mantra I have to help direct the mind. If that fails, I can turn on the light and read some more till I am really tired.

I have the same problems with the thought trains running wild. I can try and focus on the breath but after a few minutes i'm back to another train of thought!
One think that helps me fall asleep is trying to invent a new melody or sing a complicated melody in my mind. So activating the creative area of the brain helps me transition into that sleep inducing stage.

So maybe you should try to fantasize about something not involving sex? I suspect it's just about activating the creative centers of the brain. So making up a story about travelling to the himalayas and battling it out with a snow leopard or something, maybe that would decrease your urges

  10. Bro, I’ve done this for years and besides leading to MO I have no doubt it was only aided and abetted my addiction. These days I read before bed or write in a journal.

I figured I wasn't the only one who did that, but it makes a world of difference to hear you guys talk about it! All really good advice. I'm gonna try to challenge myself to de-sexualize my night-time fantasies, and think up more creative scenarios like what you suggested, @Single Palm Change. Maybe tonight I'll start a colony on Mars...

  12. I find these fantasies hard to avoid.

What I try to do instead is dream up new worlds, and pretend I am exploring them. Like, imagine the core of the world, let your mind create the world itself, then explore the world and wonder why it was created that way. Rest assured, you won't find the answer until you fall asleep.

What are the symptoms if you always have semen leakge through urine
    ??

  14. Yes, i have. I figured out that the best possible way to stop this, is focusing mind on something other, like sound of breath or thinking about positive things.
