Does one relapse totally destroy a reboot?

Hi guys, I was wondering if someone could answer something that has been confusing me. We refer to a relapse as resetting our counter. But what I’m not too sure of is, does just one MO to porn completely reverse all the neurochemical readjustments and repairs that our brain has been performing while rebooting? Does our brain instantly revert back to the state it was in prior to trying nofap when we were at our worst, or will the reboot progress be retained if we fight all the cravings and chaser effect? What about PIED and flatlines, will all progress on them be lost, or is our brain still a lot healthier for having been on a streak for X number of days?

No, one relapse doesn't completely destroy all progress made. But it does prevent the reboot. The dangerous part about relapsing is the threat of binging afterward. If you go two weeks PMO free and then binge for a week there's a good chance you lost all the physical and neurological progress you had made. One PMO session would definitely have less of an effect. But would I count it as a full reboot if you go 45 days, have a one time relapse or reset and then go another 45 days? Nah, not for me. I think a full reboot is 90 days with no PMO. The thing is if you are reducing your PMO to once every 45 days you are getting really close to a full reboot and I think at some point you're going to make it to 90 days and beyond. So you are making progress.

I am only doing the no PM for 90 days since I have a SO and I want to be intimate. It's probably going to take me longer than 90 days to be considered fully rebooted but that's okay with me. I actually think no PM is more difficult than no PMO because it's really difficult to avoid PM after an O. It would be easier to just keep my head down and avoid all three for 90 days.

i guess no is the process is yet started. If you relapse at day 150 or things like that i guess is not that bad. If you relapse ad day 14 probably you'll come back to the start because 14 is to little to get improvements.

That was what I thought, surely 1 PMO can’t undo all that good work, I just wasn’t sure. I have not relapsed, nor am I planning to, but I think I’m much better armed with this information that if I do relapse, I should be able to double down and not go on a binge

Prior to starting nofab I was suffering from extreme mind fogs and anxieties. After day 50 streak all signs of that faded, my mind was clear, I wasn't anxious anymore. Sadly day 70 I relapsed and I thought I was going to go back to how I was prior to starting nofab but I feel perfectly normal.

  6. I relapsed a few months after my first attempt at going 90 days without PMO. I don't think the damage was that bad to begin with. There were no issues with PIED for the first few weeks. Back then i had got myself into a PMO binge state doing it at least once a day. It took me about 1 month before i started to get numb again that is when the damage started and i eventually ended back on here again.

Thanks for the reply, it’s very reassuring to know that if I do have a moment of madness, it won’t completely destroy all this hard work

  8. For me yes.

    Relapse is killer.

Burn and start again each time. And lemme tell ya it doesn't get easier.

Sorry that hear that you binged, but at least you know that if you’ve done it once you can most definitely do it again

Thanks for this thread, I wanted to know this too, for I Know one day I would relapse, and it's good to know that it's important to immediately get back on track than to binge.

In a moment of weakness I’ve just viewed some hardcore pictures for a few minutes. I didn’t look at them long enough to even get hard or even consider MO’ing but I’m still upset with myself. I’ll be resetting my counter but does anyone think I’ll have undone 16 days of brain recovery in just a few minutes?

You haven't MO-ed, so you're fine. Little to nothing should be undone. Just relax and keep going.

Thanks man, just disappointed with myself. Don’t know if it’s me overthinking things but I already feel more anxious just for looking at porn for just 2 minutes

Its an addiction and you are fighting with it. Your brain is screaming for some stuff so tells you: hey some nasty pics wont make any damage! So you looked up those nasty pics, but you didnt MO, so this time you won! Well done buddie!

But isn’t it the porn that fucks up the brain and does the damage, not the MO. You can do various levels of challenge where you can M or O but all of them rely on totally giving up porn. That’s why I feel like a bigger failure, just fapping to nothing would’ve been less damaging than what I’ve just done

I had 5 30 Day reboots in a row (relapse day in between each. Awful pressure from blue balls) and I see a lot of progress. I was able to limit myself to one big release and not binge due to chaser effect. That’s important.

Thanks, it makes me feel so much better to hear that you still saw lots of progress despite a few relapses. Although I am addicted to a fetish and that is the pictures that I just looked at, how am I ever going to get rid of this fetish if every time I relapse, that is the type of porn I head straight to. I know it is porn induced because it wasn’t a part of my life or sexuality before I discovered it in porn.

Nope man. I've had my share of relapses, and the only time they hindered my progress (I dare to say I felt like on day zero) was when I binged. One PMO session can't destroy your entire progress.

As soon as you relapse, get back on track and completely forget about your relapse. The sooner you get out of that "damn, I failed again" gray zone, the better. Relapsing IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO BINGE.

Move forward, not backwards. Peace :)
