Hi Nofappers! So I’m new to NoFap. I’ve reflected on how much PMO has changed my life in a negative way and I want to quit. However, the urge to relapse just grows stronger and strongers as the days go by. Plus, once I get blue balls I know the urge to “empty my tank” will grow stronger.

I would like any advice that you can give that aided your success.

    1) Try to occupy your time with other things. The more I do, the less I even think about the urges.
    2) Get to bed before midnight. More often than not, the times I have relapsed were past midnight because I didn't have as much willpower to stop them. The easiest way to prevent being in this situation is to just go to bed early.
    3) Start Meditating. The benefits are enormous (just a quick google search can attest to that) and if you do it every day it starts training your discipline among other things.
    4) Make sure that when you do have thoughts about PMO, that you try to kill them early. Your brain will try to trick you into PMOing in any way it can, so the best way to stop this when it occurs is to realize that your thoughts are skewing toward PMOing, and to do something to stop it. What that something is, is up to you, but for a lot of people, cold showers are your best friend.
    5) If you do relapse, try to pinpoint something that triggered it and learn how to prevent it from happening again. If you do fall, just make sure to pick yourself up again and keep at it. After all, why do we fall? So that we can pick ourselves up again.

These are my five tips I try to use to not PMO, but I'm sure there are more. Just keep browsing these forums and the Nofap Reddit and I'm sure you'll find useful information. Believe me, the further you get with Nofap, the better you feel, so keep going. I believe in you.

I REALLY appreciate that you took the time to respond to my post! I will try to follow all of your advice to the best of my ability. I've actually been meditating a lot more often and it really helps me gain a new perspective on life. Thank you. :)

  5. Identify your emotion/feeling the moment you get an urge. Are you stressed? Hungry? Angry? Bored? The Urge is always linked to some emotional response.

Day 4! I'm surprised I even made it this far but I am still grateful. One strategy I did take away from this thread was to quickly identify the emotion I was having while getting the urge to engage in PMO. I would say "You're only getting this urge because you're (bored, stressed, relaxed, etc.). Going to the gym kinda takes my mind off of it.

Anyone else have any successful tips? I have less than 15 hours to make it through Day 4. I don't know about tomorrow or even a week from now, but I'm determined to make it through today!

One day at a time! Being busy is great, throw yourself into whatever work or activities you do. Always know that the urges will pass. Another thing that has really helped, and it is very difficult to do, is to open up to someone and set up some blocks on your phone and laptop, with your friend/family member/SO setting the passwords. It makes it that much more of an effort to access P, and will make you pause and think about it a little more. Also, try meditation before bed (the "Calm" app has bedtime stories, which are super helpful), and going to the gym (particularly cardio exercises, extended cardio can give you a dopamine rush that will provide some relief).

The first days are the most difficult. But your willpower can be more strong in the early days, so try to use it properly. Do exercise and divert your attention from sex. A strong body strengthens the mind, a strong mind strengthens the body.

When you get blue balls try a warm shower and to put your legs raised above your head (you can do this in the sofa).

    I hope this helps.

For me it's just knowing the feeling afterwards, it's not rewarding having to go back to my monotonous, fatigued, and brain fogged state that has always dragged me down. I like being proactive with a positive mentality, and that's what NoFap has given me whether it be directly or indirectly, or both.
I listen to music as motivation and try to focus on something I want to work on, whether it be a knew set of skills of some kind, being more creative, striving for some long-term goal like hitting the gym regularly (btw NoFap combined with weight training is amazing, the perks of NoFap combined with the mood-boosting endorphin high you get for a couple days from the gym had given me a great edge.)

    1. Get busy with something you like.
    2. Devise a good plan to fight your addiction.
    3. Yes I am an addict. Admit it.
    4. Learn about NoFap as much as you can
    5. Find support on the community or try to help someone.

I think most people would agree that getting yourself busy is important. If you obsess about your counter it's a matter of time till relapse.

Just thought of this earlier: Compile a list of trigger free shows and movies you can watch instead of porn. This may be a little challenging if there isn't a lot you haven't seen yet but you might try being open to stuff you don't think you'd like. And it's a lot for one person, we could probably get the community to all contribute to a thread. As a very rough estimate the ratings can give you a clue (R, TV-MA whatever) but that's a bit limiting. If there's a new release you'd have to pay to stream maybe put aside a few bucks for it to kind of reward yourself.

Not that you'd want to spend all your time watching shows, but it's just the closest thing. If you can get into some good reading part of the time, as well as any other hobbies and activities of course that's great.

I really appreciate your helpfulness. Saying that I was an addict was easy, but to fully BELIEVE it was something completely different.

I changed horror and action movies for documentaries about science and nature. One hundred percent safe and you can learn something ;D
