Reading Self Help Books.

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by GypsyPrince, Jan 11, 2018.

  1. It's definitely helped me prioritize where I give me fucks. That and it helped me realize the importance of taking responsibility for my own actions and thoughts. Even when something is out of my control, I still have control over how I allow it to influence me and that I always need to take responsibility for that part.

Here is one that is a masterpiece in my humble opinion “The Craving Mind” by Judson Brewer I have both audio and book versions it is my go to reference and has a lot of brain science. So it’s full of clinical, real life and science backed goodness. Everyone with a compulsion should read it. Hands down.

  8. Looks good, I will put it on my to read list

Ive recently just finished Mark Manson's two books: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, and Models (both available on Amazon). I think models would be particularly helpful for all Nofappers. Its really about being confident with women and developing actual relationships with them. Not viewing women as objects and sexual conquests. Which i think is a big problem in western culture. And as mark explains that cultural idea leads many men to use porn. I will warn there are some things that were triggers for me, which may send some to relapse.

  10. When I saw this I immediately found his book on Storytel an audiobook app. And promptly listened to it while taking a 6 km walk. Will continue listening. Thanks for the recommendation :)

Oh I’m so glad!! Yeah his perspective is both bitingly honest and not without a good sense of humor. I have gained much insight and a sense of comfort that there is not only a way out of addiction but that there are people who are aware and awake who are ready to lead the way out. It is also a great blueprint to find a way to stay clean and make a lasting healthy change in our lives. It has been responsible for motivating me to help others find their way to a path of healthy living, while growing stronger myself. Enjoy! I’m excited to hear what you think.

I'm going to ask everyone what specifically they have used and practiced from the books they like, in what specific way in their life that has made a specific difference. After all otherwise we're just reading it right?

For Recovery-by Russell Brand I really looked at applying the format on the 12 step process in a tangible way that worked using NoFap as the system is already in place. Confession, accountability, openness, the idea of reviewing and evaluating habits, points of view, negative associations and using my journal to document my thoughts as they evolve. I’d also recommend using THE POWER OF NOW to find reminders that living in the moment is the greatest way to keep oneself on task to remain clean, create positive momentum and to catch negative thought/behavior patterns before they become trigger points. Because we all come from checkered pasts and unsure futures we only truly have the current moment to work with.

In my case this is simple. I want and I try to stay disciplined. Motivation is not enough to fight against adictive behaviour.
The book I wrote about gave me also a perspective at my manhood and how it got influenced by pmo.

I can recommend to anyone with social anxiety issues (or really just: anyone):

The Shyness & Social Anxiety Workbook: Proven, Step-by-Step Techniques for Overcoming your Fear (Englisch) Taschenbuch – 8. Juli 2008

And, in case you are on the spectrum:

Living Well on the Spectrum: How to Use Your Strengths to Meet the Challenges of Asperger Syndrome/High-Functioning Autism (Englisch)
