porn blockers dont work

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by jobbyj, Feb 8, 2018.

  1. so i have spent the last 4-5 months building up my porn blockers (i have k9, some browswer add ons, have my internet provider blocks on, also have cold turkey app)

i thought the harder i make it accessible, the easier it would be to avoid. but all thats happened is i have built more and more walls, and when the urge comes, i find a way around it (e.g. translating key words into foreign languages and finding sites in those countries that my blocks dont catch)

i am tired of fapping, so i need to win the mental battle, and like others have said, have a purpose and meaning away from porn otherwise it will keep coming back.

anyway, as i restart, i wanted to post this as a warning to others, that the battle is within you and these tools, wont win it for you.

    good luck troopers

Nah, I think porn blockers can definitely help. For me they do at least. It gives me another barrier to get to porn. But I do agree with the rest of your comment. Porn blockers will not help you if they are the only thing stopping you from PMO.

Porn blockers can be a tool to help you stop the PMO, just like NoFap is a tool, the support of your friends and family, maybe a counselor. But the ultimate change has to come from within you. Until you get there, you will always find ways around blockers, and you will always find a way to look at porn. Stop focusing so much on building the blockers and focuse more on fixing your mind and body.

  4. I use blockers to browse the WWW more freely. I know I have an additional wall between me and porn. It's a wall I use to keep porn out of sight, not a wall to prevent me from accessing it. I only can do the latter.

Hang in there, it will get easier. I'm split with porn blockers. I don't think using them as the only means as prevention will work, and trust me if you really want to get yourself to see some porn, you'll find a way to get it. I do like them as another step of prevention. When you type in a website and that message comes up that says "you're not allowed to view this page," the hope is that it will slap you back to reality.
Keep going, stay strong, every day is day one!

I can relate to this. I have spend many weeks trying to find the ideal software, but when the urge come I will do whatever it can be done to bypass/uninstall the blocker. Even all porn sites are blocked I can still watch a youtube MV and relapse. There is no way that blockers can shield you from every bit of triggering information; the ultimate shield is your brain.

So I uninstalled the blocker. Knowing porn is there but I just choose to stay from it, is a real booster to my willpower.

Stay strong and don't give up!

The struggle is real. I've uninstalled my blocker before. It's not a fun feeling. Keep. fighting. @steven968 is right, the best shield is your brain. Try your hardest to remove all sexual thoughts from your brain. The more you fight it and beat it, eventually it gets easier. I went through a hard time around my 2 week mark, and it still is a daily struggle. I just try to stay as busy as possible, and when I don't give in to the urge, it's another boost for me. Keep going!

  8. Again, I think blockers and filters have to be used to prevent the porn accessing you (thus triggering you) rather than to prevent you from accessing it.

Blockers must be used to create a "safe zone" for yourself. They however cannot be used to chain yourself in that safe zone.

  9. For me they work like elizabethan collar on dogs. Without them i want to take peek or such allways ending relapse but with them on i can relax and dont even think about porn because i know its impossible to acess it with my skills.

Ofc it takes will power too. I dont know others but when i went to binge when watching youtube or google pics its very hard to get back. Usually my mind thinks like i have already relapsed so i can enjoy it to reset the counter. This is my first time having blockers on full scale on and also this is my second longest streak and i hope this is the part where me and porn goes separate way. I have to tell i am scared the day 90 because i dont know how to continue from there and based on my experienses mo usually leads to pmo after while.

  10. My experience with blocker software it made me want to test it all the time so finally I just de loaded it . Now I don't have it I don't feel the need to look up porn mostly because I changed my mindset about porn and now think of it as a control and time wasting crap.

  11. With my current blockers the idea was they are basicly impossible to bybass. With k9 etc. i spend time trying to find way and when i found it, the program was useless. K9 is very easy to get rid of but i dont share so someone without skill wont read if the k9 is enough for him. For me blockers also help with internet addiction.

  12. Try the opposite approach, instead of blocking them all, just leave them all open and train your mind to deny the urges instead of tools.

I think you guys gotta understand that they can help. The blockers not only prevent you to give into the urge, but they remind you about what you're up against. I'm starting to realize that now. The shit is bad for you, I've even restricted myself on my iPhone, (general - restrictions - make a password you won't remember, and stay on this setting until youre sincere on the sites you want to visit, nofap must be allowed, and do not allow every site you go to that satisfies your urge, also remember you picked a password you can't remember so make sure you allow sites that you are in need of, and do not allow sites that you want to stay away from) I know I'm giving a mouthful but I'm trying to tell you guys that you can make progress. So far, every time I accidentally stumble upon something related to "adult content" I remind myself what my goal is.

  14. That is just silly explanation and shows that you havent used lot of these. I have most of sites blocked. Everything i need i have whitelisted so there is no problems. I do lot of things with computer, but took while to get used to be at home without google. In work/public computers i can use things like google and there i wont have urges.

Why not to use technology that is free to help the fight? If it would be easy to stop it would not be addiction and this forum propably would not excist.

  15. this is how i have failed again and again

    wasted time i think

its like it tests my creativity, and porn wins

Using a porn blocker will make you lower your guard imo. Don’t use porn blockers and make a conscious attempt with your mind to block out any thoughts about watching porn

Instead of a blocker, try accountability software instead.
So a Real Life person holds you accountable.
You can still use a blocker and AS together, but if someone is watching you personally, you might find it's more of a internal struggle because you don't want to explain why.
Plus, they would scan everything and see it. (even if you try to delete it on your end)
Question every void in your rerouting to get by.
    Might be worth a shot.
    Just my opinion.
    Good luck!

I tried porn blockers, it was too easy to bypass.
They best block I have now is when the urge hits I physically move myself from the computer or if my phone/tablet is in arms reach I leave them where they are and move somewhere else.

    No device, no porn.
    Easy.

Its just a shame you can't just detach your junk the same way...

That software is called - cancel you internet- don’t go online unless it’s absolutely necessary. Simple as that. If your behavior is so uncontrollable and you really need an external change, cancel the internet. Downgrade to a flip phone. Box up all you electronics tape it shut and put it in moms attic. The older generation will tell you there was a word before internet. Do that for 90 days and then see how you feel.

Otherwise you will need to learn how to get through the urge. I hear people say it it all the time. Oh the urge is so strong to fap. I can’t stop it. Yes you can stop it. You will have to learn to sit with the uncomfortable feeling of having an urge. It’s like a baby who wants a lollipop and can’t, they immediately cry and give in to the urge. That what is fappers do.

If you can’t control yourself with will power yet , get rid of your computer .I say stay off computers, say off TV, cancel all social media. Start exercising and meditating and go to bed early. Don’t be a baby and cry give in so easy. Be a man and do what you set out to do.
