Can you reboot before 90 days?

Hello everyone. Do you think it is possible to achieve the goal of rebooting @ 70 days? Although high-speed internet porn sank it's claws deep in me, that was only about 7 years ago (when I was 42 and got internet access for the first time). Although a chronic masturbator since I was 13, all I required was my hand and my mind to orgasm ad infinitum.

I kept relapsing when I started this challenge 9 months ago (approx): a few days here, a few weeks there. Prior to this current streak, by best effort was 35 days (hard mode). I was assisted by several Accountability Partners.

After about two weeks, I settled into the flatline. Some have found this troubling and disconcerting, but I experienced great relief to be free of daily bombardment of sexual urges. About once a week, for several weeks, I would feel an aching urge with a strong erection and a mind that kept gravitating to sex and the ardent desire to masturbate.

For about a month (during this flatline period), I had three wet dreams. Strictly speaking, they were nocturnal emissions of semen as I had no memory of dreaming anything. On a couple of occasions, I do recall having graphic sexual dreams but, strangely, I didn't cum as a result - I am not sure what to make of that to be honest.

However, this last month, culminating in day 70, I could feel myself becoming more sexual. But it was in a way I cannot remember experiencing before. It felt more 'natural'. My niggling wish to look at porn completely disappeared. I got more erections, but I have had no wet dreams (my semen has been expelled ocassionally when I have used the toilet).

Thank you to those who are still reading this! I have a question: in your opinion, do you think I have rebooted?

It feels like I am, although I am mindful that I am a couple of weeks short of the 90 day NoFap challenge. Feel free to speak freely and ask questions if you need clarification. Whatever the case, I shall be completing the 90 days and more, I am just curious to know if I have finally 'kicked' these addictions 'into touch'! ;)

    Many thanks: IGY

Hey buddy. Don't worry about it. 90 days isn't your limit. No pmo is officially your lifestyle. Things have to change!

  3. No theres no limit. 70 days and I beat my porn addiction. Even the urge to watch it. Its a matter of your body, you have to listen to it because it knows and will tell you when you've removed the addiction(s).

Hi mate. Agreed, I was just curious if 90 days is a 'ball park' figure and that one may achieve the reboot after 70 days (or even less).

  5. I wonder myself where this "90 day" goal comes from. In fact what we are doing here is a sort of learning and changing of our behaviour. Some sort of "reprogramming" our brain.

Quitting NoFap and going to a new behaviour is like moving to another country and learning the language there.
Can you speak like a native speaker in 90 days? No, most people can't (except some exceptional exceptions ... ).
But after 3 months (~ 90 days) of training, you can at least talk and understand at a basic level. So you will have a basis then, and you can establish your new lifestyle in the new country. After 2-3 years, you can already be at high level and you will be accepted as a part of their society.

That's what going on with NoFap. And the speed also depends on your learning intensity.

If you are asking then you obviously feel quite positive. I reckon you deserve a round of applause. Congratulations! You got there. You rebooted.

Now the question is what to do next. Do you stay? Do you go? Do you keep counting or do you start living normally. The one thing not to do is to be complacent. I reckon that takes another 2 years to get over. Always be aware. But if you genuinely feel rebooted then you probably are.

    Well done!

Thanks perusan, but I don't understand: why do you say it takes another 2 years to get over it. Where does it say that on this site? If this is true why is it not the 820 day NoFap challenge?

Yeah, I guess so. By the way, I would encourage you to add edging to the reset criteria. In my opinion, you cannot reboot successfully if you are edging. Ask the forum if you are not sure: IGY :)

To answer your question, yes, I think you can reboot in under 90 days. I guess it means what your definition of reboot is. For me, rebooting means I can respond to a woman and complete the sexual act automatically. No anxiety about ED, my dick just rises from natural foreplay, remains hard without any direct contact, gets harder or pulses with direct contact, and is hard enough to penetrate even if the female isn't as lubricated as she would like to be. If she's well lubricated, it slips in like a knife through butter. That's my definition. For me, this takes about two weeks. My personal goal is to be "addicted" to a woman. In other words, have sex naturally, then wait until i have sex again before O. Then again, and again, and again until im trained to have a natural relationship with a woman instead of impulsively doing PMO just because. For some reason, after sex, I have strong urges to masturbate and I constantly confuse myself. If by rebooting you mean no more desire for porn, I don't know how long that will take. I feel, once a porn addict, always a porn addict. Kinda like an alchoholic. The desires may not be as prominent, bu they may always have potential to exert themselves if a person is in the wrong emotional state and exposed to the wrong/right triggers. JMHO.

It doesn't say so on the site. All my advice is personal advice unless otherwise stated. But the 2 years is, for me, a reasonable amount of time to be sure of what I have achieved. I have relapsed over PMO before and it shook me to the core. And when I gave up cigarettes it took me at least 2 years to feel completely safe from relapsing. I am a cautious person and I recommend caution even in the face of triumph.

As for why the challenge isn't a 820 day challenge? Would you enter into a challenge that long? :) Anyway, the last 730 days of the challenge are not really that challenging.

Again, congratulations on your recovery, IGY.

I am still of the opinion that I rebooted @ 70 days. A month later, I am posting just to say how good it feels to reach 3 figures - 100 days! IGY :)

From myself as well, congratulations IGY, you hold a counter that we can all aspire to achieve. But I have a question, you say that after 70 days you were rebooted, however will the urges to look at porn ever really truly go away? I read somewhere that like any addiction that has been overcome, the urges never really go away, one just learns how to deal with them, and they become less apparent.

I'm interested to know what you think about this, it's similar to how an ex-cigarette smoker is always weary of cigarette smoke because it stirs memories and emotions, and the ex-addicted part of the brain.

Thank you beauty and everyone else for your congratulations. :)

So, will the urges to look at porn ever really truly go away? I have heard people say I am an alcoholic, even if they have not drunk alcohol for, say, 20 years. But I have not heard former drug addicts say, I am a heroin addict (they speak about it in the past tense).

In the last month, I have had no desire or inclination to masturbate to porn. I have never had any other addictions like nicotine, so I cannot offer much in the way of comparisons, but that is my experience of my former addiction to masturbation and pornography.

Thank you for your sincere congratulations. I didn't feel much when I got to 90 days, but 100 days feels really good, I must admit. It really feels like an accomplishment to be in full control of myself over something that for most of my life has controlled me. It ate into my self-esteem, yet I already feel so much better about myself as a person - which is remarkable. If those still rebooting to could experience 1 day of this joy, I feel that most would have the necessary motivation to stay the course right there.

Yes, it does appear to be true that the deleterious effect of high-speed internet porn on the immature mind is grave. I am always impressed and gratified when another adolescent joins our ranks in order to rid this scourge from their consciousness. In your own case, I take your point about your parents excellent job in shielding you from this sordid shit, but there is also the factor of the allure of forbidden fruit to reckon with. The main thing is you are here and you are taking the steps along a pathway of hope and redemption: IGY :)

Well, I just got suckered into a trap. Regrettably, I looked at porn, I edged for a while and then masturbated and came. What happened was that someone that I used to have internet sex chats with when I was still addicted sent a short movie attachment to an email out of the blue. It just said, "Something truly special".

To be honest, I knew it could be pornographic (although they had never sent a video before), but I wanted to see it, so I opened it. I became instantly hard and in the shock and rush of the moment my brain froze and I just immersed myself in it. I apologise to any that feel let down by my weakness.

I still feel sexually charged, so I shall take care to not touch my penis at all and cleanse my mind from the images that are all too fresh! I have set a goal to emulate the streak of 124 days that has just ended.

Wow. Sorry to hear that, man. That edging is a b*tch, based on my own experience. Still, you had a good run. Not many people can say they've gone 124 days. Good luck on your next streak.
