i am about to be 10 months nofap. What about video games. Are they also addictive and has similar mechanisms to what porn does to our brain?

I've noticed that since I started this journey I play video games less and less. However the last few days I played a couple hours of Batman Arkham City (I'm so behind on next generation systems, grew up on Nintendo and Super Nintendo) and I forgot how fun that game was. I got lost in it and it felt good to escape things, if only for a short time.

I'm just beginning on my nofap journey so I use video games to fight the urges. I didn't use to play video games that much before but now I'm playing daily whenever i get the urge to fap. For context I'm playing multiplayer games like CS:GO where there are other people on your team who you can talk to and befriend

I was a video game addict and I used to spend my whole weekend playing on my ps4. I think that video games have negative effects as well. For example, after playing video games you get tired and your head starts to hurt. I also couldn't sleep right after playing video games and I think it is because video games trigger your dopamine levels, similar to fapping. In addition, video games are also a waste of time since they aren't very productive. Playing video games for hours also led to tension and stress in my brain and body which I used to "release" by fapping. I don't believe that video games are as bad as fapping, but they definitely do have similar negative effects and being addicted to anything (including video games) is not healthy

yeah. Everything should be in moderation. Extremes always hurt your body.

  8. Anything you do or use can become an addiction, that's where moderation and self control come in. For some people they find video games too addictive for whatever the reason and they have to stop or cut back. For me personally I've used them as an escape my whole life but instead of stopping completely, I've just cut back a bit and made other things top priority first so I at least get some productive stuff done.

I also do play video games.. I was a heavy gamer .. used to spend most of my free time on it.. Now I've limited it to less than 1 hr., You should invest your time in something more productive., I play it just to relax. I play FIFA btw

  10. I mean if you use video games to fight urges than it will be alright cause it will keep you off PMO. Because when you don't do anything boredom can lead you to doing PMO. But i suggest you also doing other active things such as doing sports, cold showers, meditation, etc.

If you need further tips watch my thread :

I'm quitting video games and PMO at the same time, there both wastes of time if your being honest with yourself.

I left my playstation 60 miles away with my cousin to erase the temptation and I'm not getting Internet installed in my new flat to remove the fap temptation.

It will be hard but I feel I have to be my own drill sergeant now, I've had things to easy, time to start acting like a man.

I've noticed the big difference for me is that my video game binges would come and go, I'd go for periods of time when I didn't have any interest in them. With pmo it's more like I couldn't stop even when I wanted to.

I don't play games so obsessively anymore. Pmo is still a problem.

I do believe that gaming can have a similar effect though.

  13. Videogames are always a great backup when your friends are too busy to go out. It's not too bad of a routine either, great alternative to fapping. I get more joy out of the joystick than my own stick! The only way you get hooked if you spend all your time on videogames and don't have any responsibilities such as a job, business, school, etc.

I've been playing video games since a young age, I used to collect them until I sold all the valuable ones to feed addiction and now it's way too expensive to bother with it as a hobby. I've found that addiction dulled my passion and desire for games, but it's a solid hobby IMO, slowly getting back into it. It really depends on the person and how they spend their time. Video games to me have always been a way to relax and absorb myself after a long day of work and before that, school. I might know a lot about console games (I would consider myself a bit of a buff on it) but there's been periods where I haven't played for months, or I might drop 50 hours into a game in a few weeks. It's something to talk about with others, something people actually have in common with me.

  16. My head never hurts after playing games, check your doctor maybe, something what is waste of time for you isnt waste of time for others.

  17. The only time I don't feel well or get a headache is when I loose track of time, forget to drink water, and end up playing for 4 to 6 hours straight. That's common sense though as being glued to the telly for so long can make your eyes hurt and such, not sure why in his case though.

Video games are fine, they can be addictive to some (Mostly games with gambling in them used to manipulate players) but they're fine. I play all the time (By choice) and it helps with stress. It's even been proven video games are good in some ways.

Just personally on the topic of game addiction I feel like most people who are addicted to them like full on they'll jump out a window just to play a game usually have nothing else going on in life so that's why they become addicted. No facts to back that up (Not that I know of anyway) but I feel like that's usually the case.

That excludes games that are designed to get people addicted by using gambling tactics, those can get a regular day to day person.

Just to say off personal experience I don't think game addiction is anywhere near porn at all. I play games all the time and have been for most of my life but when I stop I don't feel like "Ugggghhh I need to play a game or I'm gonna die" which I get from porn and drug users get from drugs.

The feeling is more like "I'm bored, I wanna play that fun ass game with some friends, I'm gonna do that" which is similar to when you wanna watch a movie or listen to a song you love.

Overall don't worry about it, coffee is probably more addictive than games in my opinion, again excluding games that are designed to get people addicted.

Also, kinda off topic but can I just say how ridiculous it is that politicians try to blame video games for mass shootings? Seriously how ignorant do you have to be?

  19. Is that a new multiplayer game?

Do you watch TV or movies? Games are no different, just a fun pass time, not productive sure but neither are TV or movies. If anything games are better than those 2 because you do more than stare at a screen, you use your mind and possibly talk to people.
