Hello everyone, another Fapstronaut suggested this book, but im here to tell you all that this book is phenomenal and would help many of you as you are going through your rebooting. The book is called Outwitting The Devil by Napoleon Hill. This book was written in 1937 but would have been so controversial and ahead of its time that it wasnt published until 2011. Hill died in 1970 and his family decided it was time to publish it i guess way later. but anyways, this is an excerpt that may intrigue some of you like it has me. A little back ground before i write it out. This is a non fiction by heart, and this guy napoleon writes it about himself. the first part talks about his life when it ultimately comes to the lowest point after many successes and failures, and then becomes entranced and somehow starts interviewing the devil which is where ill begin in the middle of this interview. I know it sounds crazy and im probably not making this clear but just read below and decide for yourself...
this is a Q & A between the napoleon and the devil, btw this is non biased in any religious context enjoy :)

" (D) Well, take the desire for sex expression. Now there is a force with which I master the weak and the strong, the old and the young, the ignorant and the wise. In fact, I master all who neglect to master Sex!

    (N) How can one master the emotion of sex?

D: By the simple process of transmuting that emotion into some form of activity other than copulation. Sex is one of the greatest of all forces which motivate human beings. Because of this fact it is also one of the most dangerous forces. If humans would control their sex desires and transmute them into a driving force with which to carry on their occupation that is, if they spent on their work one half the time they dissipate in pursuit of sex, they would never know poverty.

N: Do I understand you imply there is a relationship between sex and poverty?

D: Yes, where sex is not under definite control. If allowed to run its natural course, sex will quickly lead on into the habit of drifting through life.

N: Is there any relationship between sex and leadership?
D: yes, all great leaders in every walk of life are highly sexed, but they follow the habit of controlling their sex desires, switching them into a driving force behind their occupation.

N: Is the habit of over-indulgence in sex as dangerous as the habit of taking narcotics or liquor?
D: There is no difference between these habits. Both lead to hypnotic control, through the habit of drifting!

N: why does the world look upon sex as something vulgar?
D: Because of the vulgar abuse people have made of this emotion. It is not sex that is vulgar. It is the individual who neglects or refuses to control and guide it.

N: Do you mean, by your statment, that one should not indulge the desire for sex?
D: No, I mean that sex, like all other forces available to man, should be understood, mastered, and made to serve man. The desire for sex expression is as natural as the desire for food. The desire can no more be killed than one can entirely stop a river from flowing. If the emotion of sex is shut off from the natural mode of expression, it WILL break out in some other less desirable form, just as a river will, if dammed, break through and flow around the dam, The person who has self-discipline understands the emotion of sex, respects it, and learns to control and transmute it into constructive activities.

N: just what damage is there in over-indulgence of sex?

D: the greatest damage is that it depletes the source of man's greatest driving force, and wastes, without adequate compensation, man's creative energy. It dissipates energy needed by nature to maintain physical heath. Sex is nature's most useful therapeutic force. It depletes the magnetic energy which is the source of an attractive pleasing personality. It removes the sparkle from one's eyes and sets up discord in the tone of one's voice. It destroys enthusiasm, subdues ambition, and lead inevitably to the habit of drifting on all sujects.

N: I would like for you to answer my question in another way by telling me what beneficial ends the emotion of sex may be made to attain, if mastered and transmuted.

D: controlled sex supplies the magnetic force that attracts people to one another. It is the most important factor of a pleasing personality. It gives quality to the tone of voice and enables one to convey through the voice any feeling desired. It serves, as nothing else can serve, to give motive power to one's desires. It keeps the nervous system charged with the energy needed to carry on the work of maintaining the body. It sharpens the imagination and enables one to create useful ideas. It give quickness and definiteness to one's physical and mental movements. It gives one persistence and perseverance in the pursuit of one's major purpose in life. It is a great antidote for all fear. It gives one immunity against discouragement. It helps to master laziness and procrastination. It gives one physical and mental endurance while under going any form of opposition or defeat. It gives one the fighting qualities necessary under all circumstances for self defense. In brief, it makes winners and not quitters!

BTW the reason why the devil is telling him all this is because napoleon has forced the devil to confess his most devious tricks that he has upon the human psyche.
This is just a piece of the info this guys gets from the devil. Remember this was written in 1937. In my opinion Napoleon Hill may be the original Fapstronaut! Let me know what you guys think. Thumbs up if you read this far!

I loved the Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and will surely check this out! It was actually before 2011 that I read it so this is like a new publication from a loved long gone author. Cool! :D

Ps. The Pick Up Artist Mystery also talked about directing the sexual energy to something more useful at some point in the book Game by Neil Strauss. I've experimented with it a little and while I feel having a bit more energy, it's hard to direct.

Great read, kind of rings true.
At the danger of asking for spoilers - how exactly would you transmute sexual energy? Does it just happen when doing other things? Because that didn't work well so far.

Awesome quotation! Sex controlled leads to power. Sex uncontrolled leads to drifting. I see many drifters in my life. I wonder how many of the drifting men in my community and church are letting the desires for sex destroy their force.

maybe a lot, maybe not. Sometimes shame revolving around a person's sexuality can become that dam, closing of the river, after which it has to come out/flow past it, in some other way.

but this part is pretty cool, 1937, and so well relating to this site.

Thanks for the recomendation, i just read it. The publishers comments are really annoying and unnecessary but you can skip them anyways, as i did.

He doesn't give an explenation on how to do it, so i guess it's really more about focusing on your life's vision.

This is the longest i have gone without fapping since .. EVER!! and it is largely due to reading and applying this book.

It is all about NOT being a drifter and instead focusing on concrete goals and getting stuff done. When i do that i don't have to worry about fapping. Of course i don't fap while i'm chasing my dreams. It is only when bored or not doing anything constructive that the impulse rears it's ugly head.

I had similar ideas before reading the book, but was about to give up on them as it didn't quite work out without considering all angles. Then this thread appears just in time. Thanks a bunch ZenPool.

Thank You for sharing this quote man. I can see now than I wasn't alone in saying that The World is all about sex. I wondered really often how successful people managed their desire for sex expression. I know they lived in older times, without high-speed internet. Even playboy can't compete with porns. Sex is huge power.

The point is not just master sex expression, but also redirect it into Your work ,passion and any acpect of Your life. When I've started 31 challenge I said that it's not just about abstinence, but also develop good habit, create shedule, make progress everyday, work toward the goals.

I know that this quote is highly motivating, but don't stop there. Motivation is really weak, remember this. Motivation give You power for couple days. Just couple days. Do You think that Steve Jobs motivated himself to achive success ?

Shonda Rhimes: "Dreams are lovely. But they are just dreams. Fleeting, ephemeral, pretty. But dreams do not come true just because you dream them. It's hard work that makes things happen. It's hard work that creates change. You want to be a writer? A writer is someone who writes every day, so start writing. You don't have a job? Get one. Any job. Don't sit at home waiting for the magical opportunity. Who are you? Prince William? No. Get a job. Go to work. Do something until you can do something else."

    Good Luck

    Thank you for sharing this!

Another book that Napoleon Hill wrote was called "Think and Grow Rich." It's a classic and in that book there is a whole chapter on sex and he says many of the same things in that book as well.

Well well thanks very much for posting this and you've surely learned a lot from finishing Mr Hills whole book. That really is amazing insight, especially for such a long time ago. Porn probably wansn't really a problem back then, at least nothing like today, but there would of course of been the oldest industry in the world.
He must of really tasted the dark side of addiction himself and freed from it's hook through his faith and grit and willpower to know it's true grasp.
Everything he writes is so true. Great leaders, role models, successful people, they've all learned to harness their energy to be extremely productive.
I'm sure most of us who have gone 5-10 days sometimes more soon start to feel that energy and drive come back, our true everyday potential. We must not forget what it feels like even in the dark times.

Great quote, it's the hidden nature of men's sexuality that has keep humainty in the dark with religous superstition for centurys and now with internet porn men all over the world are starting to wake up to truth about sexual energy. Whats that quote from Shakespear "A thing within it's self is not good nor bad but how a person looks at it" Heaven lays within

This "idea" about sexual energy is something I have been thinking about as well lately. How exactly does one channel his energy into something that he considers "productive"? I have stopped fapping for around 2 months now and the results have been great, but of course the excitment has been fading over the last 2 weeks or so (I write "of course", because I have been expecting that). I don't think about porn anymore, but rather about how I can channel my energy to be what I consider to be productive (studying, socialising, sports, nature)? Unfortunately, most of these things my brain (or myself?) does not consider to be rewarding, so I start loosing focus and begin drifting towards activties I find more exciting, but which I know are just useless and not productive (surfing the internet, reading news or social media...). But this is again just numbing / suffocating my positive energy. How does one overcome this? Do I need to stay away from internet in general? If motivation fades, how else do stay focused? I hope my thoughts were not too confusing and that someone might still be interested in joining this discussion. ;)

^wow that's such an inspiring quote. I remember it has a zenpencil comic version :)

    On topic:
Am I the only one who didn't quite understand what's so good about Napoleon's responses? Because all throughout the statement of the D made more sense to me >__> someone fix my thinking. How come N might be the first no fapper. I dunt understand. X_X

    Hey guys!

I have a question to those of you who have read it.

Is it any differentf or more specific than the things written in "Sexual Transmutation" chapter of Think and Grow Rich?
