    Hiya folks!

Hey, I think I truly got something about nofap!

The amounts of neurotransmitters -the feel good ones, dopamine, serotonin... your brain gets flooded with them during masturbation and orgasm and you become addicted to that. I've been addicted since I was 12. It makes sense that if you're so dependent on that kind of hit every day or every other day or even multiple times a day (blush), then you're maybe more apt to not seek out quality relationships and focus on your studies as my dad would oft want to do.

In short, you've been addicted since you were a teen. Time for some recovery.

    Thanks for reading

This is awesome @Grue and congrats on your work.

My personal advice is for you to try and understand your dependency’s underlying issues. It tends to look like it’s just a chemical addiction and buzzwords such as “dopamine”, “serotonin” and “happiness hormones” that get thrown around a lot make it seem like it’s all there is to it. I think that porn is far from that. Most forms of dependency hide a more essential discomfort in life, soothed by the poison of choice. It is in our nature to seek comfort and a soothing action, it is why we seek shelter (kid running to mom), peace (vs. discord), protection (vs. anxiety and worry) and acceptance (true love). We look for ways to make ourselves feel better, even when it doesn’t hold for long. And that is the first problem with porn - it’s a fake solution to our deepest needs as humans. A damn pacifier.

How do we begin to drain PMO’s power? By understanding that somewhere, somehow, we have a need we need to acknowledge and own before we look for good and honest ways to supply it.
