How do you feel about going to the movies alone?

I'm wondering if I should go see Infinity Wars alone. Can't find anyone to see it with me.

Within social norms, what's it like to go see a movie alone? I'm not a movie goer so I'm unfamiliar. What if someone I know sees that I'm there alone? That would be embarrassing! :emoji_astonished:

I can go with you, but you pay the tickets.

  3. It's great! I love seeing movies alone. I'm not embarrassed by it. There's really no reason to be if you know who you are. It's not like you have no friends or something, you're just doing something alone. If anyone judges you, that's on them and they're dumb. I say go for it!

The only thing that bugs me about seeing movies alone is that I feel like I notice people talking or eating or whatever more than I do when I'm with other people for some reason. But aside from that I enjoy it. I'm free to react however I want. Especially if the movie is sad, it's nice to not care about crying in front of people. Lol

  4. A while after my boyfrie d broke up with my in high school, I was starting to move on and appreciate my own independence. One of the things I put on my bucket list was to go to dinner and a movie by myself, and I did it. I got dresses up and went to Carl's Jr. (lol) and then saw a movie... can't remember what the movie was. Anyway, it was fun. I ended up seeing like two people I knew, but I didn't care. I looked pretty good and was having a good time. No reason to be embarrassed about that. :)

  5. I love to go to the theater by myself on my day off, especially when my day off is a weekday. Sometimes the theater is full of people and other times it's completely empty which allows me to laugh, yell, and call the main characters names while I periodically check my smartphone on full brightness. I'll usually go the cinnabar near me so I can have a drink while I do this; it's truly freeing.

Life's short. Fuck what people think. Treat yourself.

If I'm in the right mood and it is a lazy day ya I've done it and may very well do it again.

Or perhaps not. I truly did enjoy the last time I went alone. Feels most enjoyable before dusk with something caffeinated in you.

  7. I used to be soooo terrified of doing this until I gave it a shot. Thanks to @Castielle , she said it was was something I had to experience so I did and I enjoyed myself.

No talking, sit wherever you want, don’t have to argue over who pays for what. And honestly no one is really paying attention to who’s inside the theatre. Just go at an odd hour and wear a hoodie if you are really really concerned over your friends seeing you lol

  8. I have little interest in social norms. That aside, the answer to your question is: it's brilliant! I love watching a film alone. I have done it many times, as I have eaten alone at restaurants (I do not count McDonalds as a restaurant btw, lol ) and attended music concerts on my own. There is nothing uncomfortable about it and it's certainly not embarrassing. o_O

  10. I was gonna go alone...its not embarassing, not like it matters who you're with when there because you're not talking.

Doesn't bother me because I don't go to the movies either way.

The sound is too deafeningly loud.

Just go alone. As others above have alluded to, you don't have to argue over when, where, what movie, where to sit, when to leave, etc... I would do it more often if the movies were better. The last time I went alone was to see Predators, for which I was alone in the theatre.

I find when I go alone that I am about 80 times more pissed off when I have to move my legs to let some kid go by for his 35th bathroom break.

  14. Lol yeah, Idk why that is. Other people just annoy me so much more when I'm there alone.

I go to the movies by myself all the time, actaully plan on going to see Infinity War after work tomorrow since I only have a half day. I’m going to enjoy the movie, not a social interaction, so I’ve never really seen it as odd to go by myself.

I have watched 3 movies alone by myself in theatre
And luckily I choose days when there was no crowd like Tuesday Wednesday
And while watching a movie you are feeling it
There is no point of someone beside you
But I will admit as the lights turned on ....I rushed outward quickly hehe
I have even visited ccd and KFC alone.....
Because I was traveling alone at that time

I prefer to go to the movies by myself, it means you can concentrate on the film. Then again, I am something of a loner.

I don't know how it's seen as a social occasion - you sit in a dark room and aren't allowed to talk to each other.

I've gone by myself I think three or four times... Always good fun!

First time I was seeing Interstellar for the 2nd time in a week... got into a spontaneous convo with a couple and the ticket seller about how interesting it was.

Then I saw Deadpool, was in a really good audience that laughed a lot so I could be as loud as I wanted... Actually I would argue if you see a really funny movie and everyone gest involved, it's almost like a community spirit thing lol.

  19. I've gone many times alone and I prefer it. When you go with someone you might end up not seeing the movie you want to. I actually saw The Passion of the Christ literally on my own - there wasn't a single person in the screening. It was pretty fun to have the whole room to myself.

I do it. It’s nice. I go out to eat alone too. I like spending time with me. Sometimes we argue but it’s still fun.
