Any tips on sleeping??

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by Deleted Account, May 1, 2018.

  1. Captain Rex reporting. Yes I know, this is the third post about this issue but for the last 2 nights, I've been having terrible sleep. I seem to be stressed during school nights as opposed to weekends which really bothers me. It's sometimes difficult to fall asleep and I often wake up in the middle of the night. I seem to be an insomniac as I've been battling this for months since I started NoFap. Although, I do get good night's rest sometimes, but not often.

The worst thing about having these terrible nights is that I end up feeling really drowsy, anxious, tired, miserable, depressed, etc. I end up being socially incompetent in a group as opposed to being decently confident when I get a good night's rest.

Yes, I do abstain from electronics 2 hours before bed and I do workout, meditate, read, etc. And yes, I do take melatonin as well but I still get insomnia some nights. But the issue still remains. Anyone know how to overcome this issue? I'm sick and tired of this agonizing problem. Maybe I should've have not ate that cold pizza in the fridge right before bed. Captain Rex out.

  2. Is your mind busy when you go to bed? do you focus on something? I noticed when I am thinking or worried about somthing I can’t sleep it makes it very hard

  3. Leave the melatonin a lone for a minute cause too much of that or prolonged use may be making things worse. Working out was the first thing that came to mind but you said you do that.

Do you sleep on any kind of regular schedule or are you all over the place? Regular bed time and wake up may help your brain regulate itself. If you have a shitty mattress or uncomfortable sheets and blankets that could do it also.

Routine is very important. Staying up late and laying in on your days off can disturb your sleep pattern. Try to stick to a similar routine at the weekends as you do in the week and if you do lay in, be it just for an extra hour or so.

Avoid caffeine at least 5 hours before sleep.

Personally I take supplements to aid my sleep as I work nights and a disrupted routine can't really be avoided.

    My sleep stack includes:

    200mg magnesium
    500mg l-tryptophan
    150mg l-theanine
    1.5mg melatonin

...Washed down with a cup of chamomile tea.

Not a magic bullet but definitely goes some way in helping me de-stress, relax and get what I consider some quality 5-6 hours sleep in between my night shifts. When I'm not working, I don't take any supplements as I don't want to become dependant or worse, resistant to their effects.

2 years ago I was in a really bad place with insomnia and anxiety but finding these supplements has definitely helped. If I could get a decent NoFap streak going, maybe that would help too, but I'm yet to get beyond 6 days.

  6. Yes, I did try that but that doesn't even help at all tbh. It just causes more stress so the way I do it is to just think about mundane things (not ranting). That helps me not focus on sleep and I end up going to sleep without even knowing it. So tbh, breathing exercises don't really help me sleep, they just cause me to stress out.

Thankfully though, I did fall asleep without any problems whatsoever last night and I feel much, much better now. I did get insomnia but that wasn't a big deal whatsoever. I ended up falling asleep shortly after. The trick I used was to turn the clocks around so that I don't look at them. Thanks for the advice anyways guys.

The problem might be the pizza, don't eat anything 1 hour before bed and reduce the number of caffeinated drinks you have during the day.

I would argue at least 2 hours, 3 is ideal, before bed if you can help it otherwise a light snack 1 hour before if you truly are hungry.

3 hours is too long, you would starve. For me, light snack 1 hour before bed works.

Melatonin for me. If I'm ever having trouble sleeping I'll just pop one and be asleep 10 minutes later. It's natural with 0 side effects and I believe it stays in your system till the next night.
