One thing I've experienced with nofap is that whenever I dont count days I'm doing much better regarding nofap. For a long time I used to have a 'startday' for nofap and I would know exactly when it was so I would know exactly how many days I've had gone without PMO'ing. Right now I really dont know how many day I've gone but I know it's about two weeks.

My point is this; Forget about counting days cause counting days can be another trigger for PMO because counting days is related to porn! My personal experience is that I do far better when I'm not sure how many days I've gone. This is because I dont feel the need to remind myself all the time; "now I've gone 14 days, now I've gone 20 days" etc.

Just my piece of advise. Good luck.

This is how I think of it: there are no days. Only today. The only goal one needs is to make it to the end of the day not having relapsed.

I have to disagree. Counting turns it into a kind of game or challenge, which makes it more engaging; almost fun. I look forward to passing each milestone and I get a huge sense of satisfaction when I do. Counting the days allows me to measure myself and my level of improvement, and having goals keeps me focused and motivated to keep going.

Each to their own I suppose.

I guess it all depends on how you are as a person. I think I'm a naturally competitive person so it inspires me every time that counter goes up.

i think it is good to count days in the beginning. but once you're used to it you it's not necessary anymore.

Is a good point and if it works for some then cool. I've considering getting rid of my tracker but it works for me and the process of change as I understand it. But I'm always up for changing my view if I think it can be improved so thanks for the suggestion:eek:

aristotling - I see your point. I also like the challenge in nofap and being competive with my own personal record. But I dont like to have the specific number of days in my mind. I know that the last time I relapsed was around the 10th of december. So I now know that I've been PMO free for about two weeks.

The thing about counting days is that you constantly remind yourself how long you gone without P. And in that way you also remind yourself that you have put something aside that you love and have great cravings for. But cravings you dont want to have anymore. You give yourself the oppotunity to get tempted, or at least create a path in your mind, for seeking out P again.

iliander - great point. Cause in the beginning its nice to count days and enjoy the fun and experience of nofap. But when you have come to the point where you want to put it aside forever, you should stop counting days cause you wont have a goal anymore, just a truly great change of lifestyle.

i agree completely. it is all about adopting the lifestyle and not thinking about it anymore, just see it as something normal.

Just a word of caution. When quitting any kind of addiction just be sure you have stayed stopped long enough to be absolutely certain this is something you will never do aagain. Otherwise its too easy to rationalize and slip back into your old ways. So please stay vigilant and don't rush the process because there is no rush, not if this REALLY is forever?

It's a good idea, I'm actually gonna try it now by removing my tracker to see how it goes :).

jiltedjohn - I see your point. It can be a big mouthful and "forever is a REALLY long time", as I read on some girl's t-shirt, the other day.

But I feel experienced enough to try to go a whole year actually. So when we reach new years eve 2015, I've hopefully reached my goal and hopefully I dont even feel like PMO'ing because I've broke the habit truly.

I still dont know when exactly I fapped the last time, and I'm going to keep it that way and not set a start date for myself on new years this month... But I fear the summer. I can tell you that. When all girls loosen up in their clothes.. But let's see how it goes.

To the person above: this why I dress modestly, for all the guys who are trying not to lust.

For MO, I personally feel like I do better with a counter. It makes a reset feel like more of a big deal, and I'm less likely to cut myself a break "just this once". But I might try with no counter, just for kicks.

For P I'm not using a counter. I looked at some soft core P last summer, but I'm done with that now. I've had no urges or any real desire to go back to it since. I guess I'm lucky and didn't get addicted. I feel like using a counter for P would just make it a viable choice again, which I don't want.

I agree we shouldn't always be looking at our dark past but rather where we want to go... that being said, I quit on 11/12/13 (dd/mm/yy), so I'll never forget the date lol.
