You Know What? Fucking Video Games

Gonna be starting Final Fantasy 14 Online with a few buddies of mine. That'll help occupy a few of my nighttime hours. I used to play a lot of video games and really loved it. I even had a job as a game journalist for a while and got paid to play and review games. That was pretty cool.

But I'm doing all this grown up crap these days - you know ... working and paying bills. I haven't had much time for them, but I'm finally getting back into it and it's pretty fun. I just beat The Last of Us HD on PS4 ... I waited for the HD version and I'm glad I did. Phenomenal game, although the ending was a tad bit disappointing.

Haven't had a chance to play much else lately, though.

I wanted to ask if anyone knows of any badass games out right now or coming out that involve wielding a sword. Doesn't really matter what genre, fighting or rpg or what have you. I'd like to keep away from mmo's as they are quite addictive. FF14 is enticing but I don't play mmo's anymore after a severe WoW addiction influenced me to fail out of college.

I just felt the desire to find a game to wield some wicked sword in and slay enemies (what else would you wield a sword for lol) to channel some rage. Raiding in WoW (I quit after Cata) with my Fury Warrior with two swords felt so incredible, I miss it but I don't want to get addicted to an mmo again.

 

WoW sucks ass. It's a never-ending, life-sucking blackhole void of any joy or accomplishment ... and it's just gotten worse ever since Activision bought Blizzard. FF14 is actually pretty fun ... and there's a lot of throwbacks to previous FF games which imbues the feeling of everything with FF nostalgia. That and the entire soundtrack is done by the same guy that's composed for all the previous games.

Also, it takes a LOT less time to get epic gear compared to WoW. You can get a full set in a couple months. You also don't need 800 different toons for 800 different classes. You can customize one character that you really like ... and that one character can do everything and you can switch between classes instantly.

Also, you get to ride Chocobos!

MMO's are still time-consuming, though ... regardless of which one you play. WoW lost a LOT of subscribers to FF14. 2 years ago, it had 12 million subs and now it's down to like 7. FF14 has 3 million and growing.

WoW is specifically designed to keep you addicted and it's rated as the most addictive game of all time. And it's not addicting because it's fun ... it's just the way the mechanics are set up and I hate it with every fiber of my being.

If you feel you have addictive tendencies toward MMOs, I would avoid FF14 though. It's not something you can solo, however. The content is designed to play with friends.

I am a huge fan of mass effect saga and also Dragon age ( dragon age 2 wasn't so good), basically i like games where i can decide what happens next, just like mass effect.
Walking Dead (telltale) is maybe one of the best games i ever played. Already finished both seasons and now waiting Season 3 .
Can someone suggest any game that you are the one pulling the strings, like making decisions and stuff.

 

Lol, I agree. WoW is digital heroin. Hmm, perhaps WoW has stained the way I view the mmo genre. I think I may give A Realm Reborn a try! Thanks for your opinion!

I use to, still have it linked to my battle.net account. I lost interest. Not much of an RTS fan anymore.

 

Haha I always wanted anyone here to talk about video games.
My best game is Metal Gear Solid as a story and gameplay and it is like a legend to me.
I'm not that fan of FPS but the only one I'm really big big fan is definitely
Bioshock and it like a dream for me damn. The last of us is a great game too, I'm a fond of RPG games like
Final Fantasy which is my childhood games. DMC is awesome but the last two ones were bad,
I'm going to get GTA V once I get PS4 next year.

I'm going to say something very weird, but the only games I play currently on the daily/semi daily are in lumosity.com. Lol.

I do want to find some Mario ROMs online just haven't dedicated any time to it. I think two or three months ago I was playing Destiny and Forza Motors 5 or 6 or whatever, with a friend that has this big ass projector 1 day. This was such a fun time.

I also want to buy a game system though... I had a PS2 back in the day but then I sold it. My thing before was GTA 4. I also played Assasin's Creed but never beat it. I also played Metal Gear Solid such a fun game. I used to grow frustrated with all video games because sometimes I just couldn't figure out how to beat them, I think I took Snake from MSG to some weird location that he could never escape and I was like "fck this" lol. I was too impatient to put up with restarting the game or discovering how to beat it.

That being said I want to get GTA5 but idk.... Besides the missions the whole super realistic aspect of gaming is not something I like anymore. Like I could drive a car, get a haircut, and (before my own reboot on this forum) I did get a hooker 1 time, why would I want to do that in a game as well? The aspect of flying in an airplane or helicopter and jetski in the water. And yea ofcourse the whole heist aspect of the game. I have a fear though, that the hooker thing might still be too triggering to go back to PMO tho. Plus the game is pretty damn obscene anyway.

I was addicted for a short amount of time to go one game back in highschool. WoW. 8 months. I would wake up and play WoW at 5 am, go to school come back and play WoW until 2 am. Shit was crazy. I told myself I had a problem and stopped lol. It's crazy to think about the amount of time invested playing the game PLUS watching porn. Cot damn. That's some dedication on the wrong stuff. Also towards 7 months I got bored of the game because I wanted to be a dwarf hunter... A really bad class of warrior. But I liked my hunter and instead of going on Raids I would go all around exploring Wow.

Anyway, that was my mild adventure in video games. I'll get a system after I pay some cc debt off, and move out.

Edit: Just remembered another game I played. Max Payne. OH MAN that was my game. I played it when I was a kid and would literally flinch when there were gunshots. I really liked it. I played Max Payne too for a bit but I got to a level I couldn't beat and quit the game.

Edit 2: Another game. Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. OH MAN These were the best!!! I spent significant amount of time playing Diablo 2. My dad hated my mom for getting it because he hates any kind of game that isn't chess. Such fun times. I never killed Diablo. I once again... got to a tough spot and quit.
Diablo 3 was the shiznet graphic wise. I beat it fairly easily up to Moderate...Kinda too easy imo.

I think that's it. From what I have written it seems to me I am a chronic game quitter lolz.

One last thing: I also got tired of the mechanism of point/shoot and walk/run. With mostly every single game either FPS or other. It's amazing that no one has come up with a more creative gameplay. But I guess this is the simplest and "funnest" way to make games. Idk if there is even other ways to play? That or Myst...But myst got boring quickly specially when some puzzles were really hard to figure out.

Yeah I know what you mean, people really got overreacted for it.
But I really loved to acting there and it is really seems realistic like conversations and surviving.
I hated the fact they are making a real movie for it, I mean it might be good idea but after two or three parts not just one.

 

That cinematic with the little girl at the beggining I still remember vividly, cinematics mastery. That is true... about realism, I played it at friends house and didn't get too far but the convos were really smooth, and bad guys needed more then 1 shot. Didn't know about the movie lol...Those never turn out well.

 

Dubcon-- there's been rumors that there might be mass effect 4 in coming. But nothing solid information ain't yet

A few triggering scenes I think like 3 in the entire thing. No sex though. You won't even see the triggering scenes for what they are because they are set to a backdrop of frustration.

 

JUST be careful. I don't want to be the source of your relapse. It is pretty much about a recluse who finds porn. Gets addicted then gets out of it. And NO RESET IS NOT AN OPTION. ONCE you quit porn quit porn for good.
