Pornography addiction awareness at college

Good job and congratulation for mustering the courage to speak up about it to someone you didn't know that much.
Hoping you will be able to get the word out in places where people don't have a clue that this subculture will be harmful for their future and for our societies if it keeps growing at the rate it does.

A suggestion : Years ago I've seen a documentary about sick kids sending hepeful messages to non-sick kids living in terrible places, to create an altrusitic bond and raise awareness on both sides, under the direction of teachers and NGOs.
May I suggest that you organize to gather messages from NoFap (with the permission of their users, maybe) to get out there and help build the foundations of your argument? One thing I've witnessed is the disbelief of many when it comes to general sexual addiction : maybe having messages from a cohort of afflicted people explaining their path and their hopes would help strengthen the message?

 

Well done for finding the courage and speaking out. Universities are a prime place for debate about this topic and seeing as universities have been under fire lately in the press about things such as sexual harrassment, rape culture etc. I think they need people like you who can talk from a position of experience and knowledge about the bad side of porn who can get the student unions on side to look at the real facts, not just the BS spouted by sex therapists, porn production companies and mens magazines.

 

It's not going to be easy, this is a video of Shelley Luben debating at Cambridge University (Contains strong language and graphic descriptions) yet despite her first hand experience and expert analysis...the house still voted that porn was a valuable public service! I mean can you believe it, there is such an ingrained attitude amongst men and women and many don't want to face the reality and would rather just believe the glamorous visage painted by porn and stay in denial. I think it's a numbers game, the more people speaking out from different backgrounds the better. There are some states for example, i think Utah is one that has declared pornography a public health crisis, so some poiliticians in certain parts of the developed western world are taking note.

 

It's not going to be easy at all. There is no short answer for your question. The bad news is you probably won't be able to cure it. The good news is it doesn't have to be out of control and affect every aspect of your life. You need to know more about what you are dealing with and the underlying causes of it. I suggest you research the phenomenon of sexual addiction and see if it sheds some light on your predicament.
