    Hello Community,

I have one question that has been on my mind for very long: prior to starting my reboot, I started suffering from depression and I habe to take antidepressants since then. My question now is: does the reboot process work even if I take these meds? because they are also connected to serotonine/dopamine?

I would say yes your reboot will still work.

My reasoning is a reboot is about rewiring the brain. By heavily using porn you are in essence training your brain to react to an idea of sexuality that just isn't based in reality. Porn isn't concerned about caring for one partner, Cuddling or any a desire to give pleasure to anyone other than yourself. If you are anything like myself you probably pmo a lot when feeling stressed/ Lonely or sad, again this isn't healthy and will likely harm exisisting or future relationships.

As a second point I am aware that an overload of dopamine from heavy pmo has been linked by many to finding it hard to find pleasure in other things in life. I have noticed i am more moved by music for example when i am on a decent streak. At the same time my moods can swing wildly from highs to low but after about a month i felt a lot more at ease and my moods sort of balanced out! I still think the rewiring part is the most important part of a reboot. You want to cut out/kill those path ways that are linked to the porn addiction part of your brain, that's why it becomes easier to resist relapsing the longer you go on your streak and i don't see meds interfering with this rewiring process!

How do you feel your streak is going do you feel happier in yourself/ More confident / Less urges? All are signs of recovery

Keep up the good work, Most of us dream about doing half as well as you are, What matters most is that you are feeling benefits by giving this up which i hope you are

I don't trust psychiatric medications but I think there are usually complicated reasons why people use them. I don't use them and I know there are a lot of complicated things I go through, that most people would rather take medication than go through. But I'd rather just go through it. I don't judge people who take the medications but I do judge the system (harshly) who would rather sell people these pills instead of deal with the real inner and outer issues.

I know what you mean but by the time of October 2016, when my depression started, I had already lost 10kg within a few weeks, I couldn‘t eat, I couldn‘t sleep, I was already going for suicide because this was no life anymore to me. Then my parents brought me to a hospital were I took ADs for the first time in my life. I slept the whole night through and had breakfast in the morning for the first time in a month.

I agree with you that the system wants people to take as much pills as possible (money) but on the other hand, there are also situations were there is no other way in my opinion. These pills have saved my life back then.

My ex had issues with depression and took pills to combat it so i can see both sides of the argument here. At the end of the day you have to do what is best for you and its seems that you have come out the other side in a better place so that is all that really maters!

How do you you feel your reboot is going, Would you say you are feeling clear benefits?

My reboot is going quite well, I don‘t even think of porn too much. I generally feel that I have changend some thinking patterns and don’t care as much about things as I used to (perfectionism was my habit) but I don‘t know if this is related to therapy/ADs or reboot? besides at least I don‘t have severe side effects like anxiety attacks any more

That's great to hear and judging by what your saying in reference to your original question you are under going a pretty much textbook reboot. Everything you mention are things i noticed improve when i went on my long run earlier this year (and we are not alone in reporting these benefits so i truly believe there is a link to heavy pmo use) Keep pressing on with your reboot and don't let the doubts creep in.
