Hello everybody, I just got here

I'm very curious about the concept of "rewiring" your brain by being I don't know how much time without masturbating, viewing porn or achieving orgasm.
I'm pretty sure there is not much science behind this concept, specifying that you have to do no PMO, and specifying how much time you have to do it.
But I am curious about what changes, if any, it might induce to my body not masturbating or orgasming(I don't watch porn just for the funsies so I won't be watching porn either) for a long period of time.
My initial milestone would be of 20 days, according to the nofap community would that be enough to make palpable changes on my body/brain? If not I'm pretty confident I can achieve longer times.
Any guidance and references to scientific research on this topic would be appreciated with gratitude.

    Wish me luck!

  3. Hi. Welcome to forum!

There really haven't been that much studies done but there are certainly some. But also even more importantly there is immense amount of people testimonies and experience stories. And everybody can find out for themselves. This website is generally good start if you want some science - https://www.yourbrainonporn.com/research-articles-and-abstracts

Anyways, make sure you create a personal journal thread in Reboot Logs section and blog there on a regular basis. As well as just generally be active participant in various forum discussions. I recommend this to everybody new here because it's the major thing that helped me when I was first starting. Just lurking on forums, reading and learning is great. But it usually is so much more powerful to engage. It helps to keep us motivated and accountable when we are active part of community. And keeps this in front of our minds so we don't forget about importance of it and slip away in our old habits. Sharing is also therapeutic. This is a major reason why AA meetings work so good. But that was developed before internet era. These days we can get most of the same benefits online through communities like this. So don't underestimate the power of active participation.

I would also like to suggest you to look into mindfulness meditation. It has helped me personally tremendously to learn how to deal with urges and triggers. It takes a while to get good at it and notice results, so you need to be consistent with it, but once you do it's very powerful. It has been used by sages for thousands of years to deal with various issues of the mind. And in recent decades the science is also catching up to what ancient sages have know for centuries. Meditation these days are widely used as very effective tool by psychologists for treating addiction and by neurologists for supporting recovery of the brain. It is a great exercise for the brain the same way as jogging is great exercise for the body. Check out this Ted talk, it gives a good idea of what's it about when it comes to philosophy. As far as practical side of it there is this awesome smartphone app called Headspace for guided meditations to get you started.

Wish you lot's of strength and success in your reboot journey!

Thanks a lot for the tips!

You're giving me a great impression of this community. I will try to blog on the reboot blog as regularly as I can, though right now I'm on finals so I don't have much time. And yeah I'm definitely gonna try the mindfulness thing, I've just started yoga and I really want to give the whole meditating thing a go, mainly for problems I'm dealing in my life right now but I bet it will help with this too. Thanks again!

  5. I have outlined a few benefits in my profile posts.. but it's all a mess and you'll be hard pressed to find it...
So I will list a few benefits here:
    1. Change in perception of females,
    2. I am more active due to more energy,
    3. I feel the need to exercise everyday deep within me,
    4. I feel ready to pursue path of wisdom (Follow all my responsibilities, be self aware of my defects etc.)
    5. I am very confident with women,
    6. I love to spend time outside rather than stay home in my room all day long.
There are many benefits, but it will depend on your own unique personal makeup and personality type!
    Have a nice reboot!
