Hey you all 32y/o dude here been hooked on porn since i was like 12 or something idk, twas before internet porn so had to buy magazines or get some vcr tapes.
Internet obviously did make it way easy to access porn, and my addiction has gotten more and more as the internet got faster and faster.
My plan is to go old turkey starting with 10 day challenge.
Any advice will be highly appreciated.

  2. High speed internet porn, consumed during child and adolescent years is what does the major damage to the developing brain. So, it will still be a challenge, but not as tough as it is for the younger generation. Starting small is a good tactic. :)

Next time you've got pictures of a woman/man in your head, think on something else. The most inspiring images for me are Bible stories. When I'm struggling with a desire to view pornography, I think about Jonah being swallowed by a giant fish or Jesus hanging on the cross. Give it a shot. Think about something inspiring so that you are equipped to overpower those lustful thoughts.

Day 1 is done, no urge at all today, might be from just how determined i am, plus was busy all day, working and business stuff.
Taking things one day at a time, really finding alot of encouragement from this group.
Lets continue to pray for each other.

  9. Hi. Welcome to forum!

Make sure you be active participant in various forum discussions. I recommend this to everybody new here because it's the major thing that helped me when I was first starting. Just lurking on forums, reading and learning is great. But it usually is so much more powerful to engage. It helps to keep us motivated and accountable when we are active part of community. And keeps this in front of our minds so we don't forget about importance of it and slip away in our old habits. Sharing is also therapeutic. This is a major reason why AA meetings work so good. But that was developed before internet era. These days we can get most of the same benefits online through communities like this. So don't underestimate the power of active participation.

I would also like to suggest you to look into mindfulness meditation. It has helped me personally tremendously to learn how to deal with urges and triggers. It takes a while to get good at it and notice results, so you need to be consistent with it, but once you do it's very powerful. It has been used by sages for thousands of years to deal with various issues of the mind. And in recent decades the science is also catching up to what ancient sages have know for centuries. Meditation these days are widely used as very effective tool by psychologists for treating addiction and by neurologists for supporting recovery of the brain after physical injury. Plus it is generally a great exercise for the brain the same way as jogging is great exercise for the body.

You gotta make sure it is proper mindfulness meditation though. "Mindfulness" meditation where we just focus on breath is more like a concentration meditation instead. It works too but differently and not as powerfully in my experience. Real mindfulness meditation however trains you to accept your urges by understanding the nature of them by observing them, not just suppress them by concentrating on something else instead. It makes you comfortable with them. And once you accept and become comfortable with them there is no need to get rid of them, so there is no need to PMO. Only reason why we PMO is because that urge, that itch in our crotch is uncomfortable, we wanna get rid of it. And then after PMO we have our release. Or we simply want pleasure. And inability to have that pleasure makes us uncomfortable. But if we accept that we can not have pleasure then resistance is gone and there is no reason to PMO.

Acceptance and mindfulness is the key. Check out this Ted talk on acceptance and mindfulness practice, it gives a good idea of what's it's about when it comes to philosophy. The mindfulness practice as described by psychologist in a the video can be used by itself but ideally should be used as supplementation to your daily sitting meditation. Sitting meditation I personally practice and recommend to people is as explained by meditation expert in this YouTube playlist. If you don't like the monk or want other method there is this awesome smartphone app called Headspace for guided meditations.

Wish you lot's of strength and success in your reboot journey!

Thanks fire, those are some great tips and you know what, from the past i have noticed the more i suppress it the more it builds up and gets to a point where i have to release it. I wanna lern how to accept it so i can be comfy with it and know how to deal with it in a healthy way.

Day 2 down, been staying busy for the most part, minimal urge here and there, but really staying on guard. Someone shared with me that i shouldnt fight the urges but rather accept them but not act on them but meditate mindfulness and let th pass.
This will obviously take practice but im up to the task.

I keep a journal. Hand written. In relapse situations, I'm able to catch trends, and in positive situations, I'm able to grasp those good vibes and really press into them.

4days down, having alot of fantasies about sex atleast its with my gf though shes long distance, no urges towards pmo. Thank God. Right now having a beer. Previously a beer would trigger the urges to PM, but not today, hopefully never have the urges as strong as they used to be.

Halfway there to my 10day mark, busy with conferences so not much urges. Very thankful for this platform since i can come on here instead of getting into other websites. Im being very cautious with my speech my texting, cause what may seem like innocent flirting is what easily gets me back into p habits.

8days have come and gone, my mind is soo occupied with my new project that its not easily distracted some silly desires. I guess its the fear of failing in a project that keeps you wired. Even seeing half naked ladies at the pool i was able to look away and not even think about it.

9/10 days was uup, almost done with my first challenge, just hours away from stamping it done. What helped me the most is being so focused about personal growth. I literally have no desire for much else let alone P. Im also praying alot for the Lord to give me strength and keep the evil one away
