Firstly, I am surprised to see that such a large community against porn/masturbation exists, it's pretty cool.
I was introduced to masturbating and pornography at the age of 10, and since then I have been at it up until now, I'm 18 so 8 years.
I have tried to stop masturbating and watching porn before due to religious reasons but failed each time. I was simply bombarded by sexual images throughout each day and I reach a point where I just give up, feel guilty, and the cycle continues.

I always read and hear people saying that there is nothing wrong with porn, etc, but I never believed it. I would ejaculate way to quickly with porn because it's so stimulating and over time I developed premature ejaculation. My other reason was that if porn was nothing to worry about then how did I have a problem when I tried to stop watching it, so didn't make sense.

Recently I came across the website yourbrainonporn.com which enlightened me and completely changed my mindset about porn. After realizing what it can do to someone I knew I had to stop, which lead me to discover this website.

I realize that this is probably the hardest addiction to overcome and will suffer while doing so but it will be worth it, not only will it help me become a better person but I can have a positive effect on society (what I think about women, get involved in my community, love and marry someone, etc). Since there are only downsides to masturbating and watching porn, it has to go.

My goal is to not watch porn or masturbate for at least a year, hopefully with the support on this website I can achieve it.

Hi! Just wishing you all the best. Have you been over to the main forums? Get stuck in and see what grabs your attention and help and be helped just by making an honest contribution.

I quit heavy drinking, cigarettes, and cannabis on the same day in 2008 after 25 years of use and abuse. I haven't touched any of them since and now I'm doing the same with PMO. And I don't mention that to brag (25 years of use and abuse is nothing to brag about!) I say it to encourage and to offer hope.

Addiction is addiction and to overcome it we MUST make fundamental changes in the way we think and behave which in turn will change our and habits so learn everything you can, KNOW you can do this (knowing is so much stronger that believing) and see this as an adventure in which you have the potential to learn and grow beyond your wildest dreams.

But you have to be truly up for it?

Just in case your interested I've put the three main resources I used to help change my thoughts/behaviours in my signature below. I can't recommend them enough but this is your journey and these are only suggestions. You will get plenty of other equally valid advice as there's a very healthy balance of perspectives on this site and together we are making a meaningful, positive, lasting difference which I for one am thrilled to be part of.

I'd find it hard to modify any of my behavior for a religion, but I'd change everything for a person I loved. And that person, for me, is God first, and my wife second, but second only in that she is a creature. Of her heroic, joyful love -- oh, she is the true daughter of her Heavenly Father and my only one.

Changing for people who love me? Easy.
