I'm 33 days into NoFap and have only just found this site, so I decided to seek the opinion of the masses.

My thinking is; If a person can drink alcohol responsibly for enjoyment and not become an alcoholic, can the same thing be done with PMO? I'm toying with the idea of a monthly "fapday" to grant myself, after I complete the 90 day challenge. On the day I complete the 90 day challenge I will wait 15 more days, then in the month following the month I end those last 15 days in I may pick one day to reserve as a fapday. A "fapday" as I've come to call them is a day where I may PMO to my heart's content, and I can have one a month. If I fap on any day I have not already designated as a fapday, I will redo the 90 day challenge.

So what do you think guys? Is that unsafe or too risky?

  2. Terrible idea. Pmo is never good for you.

I understand that P is not good, but MO is relatively safe if done without porn is it not? There are many articles about how MO can prepare one for sexual intercourse and prevent distraction.

    True.
It is also healthy when you don't do it too often.
Don't let the people here tell you otherwise.
Not that I'm saying you should take my word for it either - I'm not a doctor.
Doing your own research online is always the most reliable source :)

Trust me bro, you can't do it occasionally without getting addicted. From once a month to twice a month on and on. You have to decide whether you want to be a masturbator or if you want to drop it for life.

Thanks for being open minded, and I have and will continue to do some research online. I've got plenty of time to figure it out :)

I appreciate your input, but where have you gotten this information if I may ask? Nothing I've read online really addresses the ability to masturbate without being addicted, everything is about the addiction itself. I've based my hypothesis off the difference between drinking alcohol and being an alcoholic, and I intend to test it according to the time frame I have provided. If I relapse, or feel a significant decline in energy, confidence, etc while doing this experiment I'll stop. I also think this might overall strengthen my self control, indulging one day after breaking the addiction and then abstaining from it until the urge vanishes.

Plus, the idea is really keeping me going. Having something to look forward to at the end of this.

I've played with this idea from time to time but it always come down to the way I've used PMO... If i'm addicted, which is why i'm on NoFap, can I really trust myself to keep it from getting addicted again after a rebooth?
In my personal opinion I think I can't do it, if I start with once a week then it will become twice a week and so on...

If you think you can do it then go for it but once you're an addict you're an addict for life.

You're comparing addiction to PMO to alcoholism, but alcoholics absolutely cannot have a "drunk day" and be ok. Those who are not addicted to alcohol can enjoy occasional drinking safely, but addicts can't. If you consider yourself a PMO addict - which is presumably why you're here - then a fapday is probably a very bad idea.

To me, the key question to keep in mind is - why? Why do you want a fapday? Answers like "because it's healthy for other people" or "because maybe I can get away with it" are really more excuses than reasons. If the reason you want a fapday is the same as the reasons you PMO when you're hooked, then it's just your addiction trying to get to you.

The best argument I can see for plans like this is that if you're a super heavy addict that maybe this can be a transition, or harm reduction. But if you've gone 33 days already, seems like you're in good shape. Why not just keep going? What are you really missing out on that a fapday would uniquely solve, that's worth the risk of a setback?

If you get to 105 days you'll have gotten further than I ever have, and it's your risk to take, but for my two cents I wouldn't make that the plan.

Before I started NoFap I would PMO once every other day, compared to most of the people I've encountered on here I'm not sure that qualifies as addiction. (Apologies if anyone finds that offensive) I decided to begin NoFap because of all the benefits I'd heard about, but not because I felt I had an unhealthy obsession or issue. At the moment I feel I could survive this experiment without relapsing, but I may reconsider in the future.

Still you make some good points, thanks.

That's good I was similar to you, some PMO every 2 or 3 days but it became a problem really fast so I know doing that could be harmful to me...

If you can do it then go ahead sexual health is a personal thing after all.

  12. I feel like most things in moderation in life are ok. But this is one of those things where it is very easy to get addicted and most don't realize it until it's too late.

Researching this topic is still something I want to do. Until now I didn't find a substantial method but that doesn't mean it not doable. This forum has a focus on PMO addiction and not how to do it healthily so don't expect a lot on here. I would say if you compare it with alcoholism then you could also "borrow" their research, methods and philosophy. That's what I was planning to do when I hit that 90 mark again.

And if you fail when you try... well look at this forum and all the people that fail their PMO goal, it's part of the journey. Just try again :)

I don’t smoke cigarettes and I could probably smoke a pack one day a month and may not start a full blown addiction. I’m not an alcoholic. I could binge drink once a month and not become an alcoholic. But neither would be a healthy or smart thing to do. Same thing with PMO. Regardless of whether you can engage with Porn without it becoming a full blown addiction it’s still very bad thing for people. It damages the way you look at women or men (whichever people prefer). It objectifies them and belittles them. These are for the most part highly damaged people many of whom suffered physical and sexual abuse in childhood. There will never be anything “healthy” for anyone in PMO.

MO is the choice not PMO. Its because the addiction is not to MO, it is to P.

I believe there are people like this. For me, I always had to get my daily fix of PMO. I didnt go out, I was damaging my penis from masturbating up to 3 times a day, everyday and fought through the pain. My social skills went down the drain etc. Sometimes the addicted person doesnt know hes addicted and they need an outside source to tell them so. You can easily get caught in it man. If youre going this was (I say quit porn and masturbation alltogether) keep track of how many times you watch porn or masturbate. If your frequency increases then your getting addicted to it. Trust me, stop altogether. Those fap sessions to your brain (releasing the feel good chemicals) can lure you in quick. I work out and the chemical release feels so good and I feel proud of myself for working for that. Stop pmoing altogether is my answer. Good luck!

  17. So your plan is to reward yourself with jacking off for the accomplishment of not jacking off??? How could that make any sense to you?

Coming from a Guy who tried out what you are saying you want to do. It's a viscous circle and you will end up PMOing more than you wish to. I started the same way... Finish a challenge and have a free one. Initially it used to be without P. But slowly I felt that I'm doing great and started P-subbing. And eventually back to PMO. Not as frequently as before but like once a week. I've realised that I'm slowly heading back to bad habits and have come back here again. After 3 months. And now I feel like I've totally squandered 3 months. So my advice, don't do it .

It's extremely dangerous. Porn basically isn't safe at any dose; there is evidence of people being negatively affected even with infrequent use. MO once a month *after* a reboot *might* be fine, but a total binge is unhealthy, and causes your brain to be desensitized and reduce the number of dopamine receptors. Addiction isn't just frequency, but dosage. MO binges are never healthy, and can cause relapses to PMO. I wouldn't recommend MO at all if you have a sexual partner.

In general, your body will reabsorb and recycle your semen, and will naturally release itself if necessary via wet dreams. If you never PMO, never have sex, and never have wet dreams, you may simply not need to ejaculate at all. It's probably best to never PMO or MO or even M, and simply ejaculate only from wet dreams or sex. Sex can obviously become problematic in of itself.

The thing is, PMO addiction doesn't come out of nowhere. The happiest man on earth wouldn't need to PMO. It's probably your way of compensating for something that makes you feel down. Maybe you're having trouble socializing, maybe you've never been in a relationship, maybe you feel alone all the time or maybe you just didn't know what you were getting yourself into.
Whatever the case may be, you can only get rid of it by tackling the root of the problem.
Unfortunately there is no universal solution. You might say "get help!" but it ain't that easy. Finding enough courage to open up is difficult. Still, I've done it and I would say it paid off.
