Is it more important to get enough sleep each night or stick religiously to a morning routine even if it means losing sleep one or two nights?

This was originally placed in "rebooting" because my question was pertaining to reboot. Which of the two is best for reboot...

I'm getting incredibly frustrated with posts being moved. I get the need to maintain order, but...

You'd be surprised how right this is. Listen to this Joe Rogan podcast if you're curious. Lack of sleep can cause serious health issues later in life.

Matthew Walker actually has a book out as well that discusses this topic called Why We Sleep. I've been dying to read it but can't buy it just yet.

Completely agree, not sleeping cloud the mind and routines can be flexible.

Getting enough sleep is vastly important, but it also comes down to the context of the situation. Take me for example; I’ve been suffering from insomnia since I began my current streak, and I know from experience that relapsing would put a stop to it. However I also know that getting past PMO addiction is the most crucial thing for me right now, and the insomnia is due to withdrawal from abstaining from PMO. The insomnia will eventually subside as it has for other fapstronauts experiencing it. But it would be ludicrous for me to give up my routine and relapse just to get some more ZZZ’s.

Get enough sleep ftw. What new routine you are onto that make you sleep deprivation?

My routine doesn't intentionally cause me to not get enough sleep. Routine is in bed at 10P, up at 5A (7hrs), but sometimes life happens and bed time is closer to 11 or 12. So, do I sleep in or still get up at 5A?

I say get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep everyday. So if you're sleeping late, don't wake up so early at 5am. Heck, even if you wake up early at 5am, you won't be able to concentrate on what you were planning to do due to fatigue

It's best to try and have a routine which gives you enough sleep. If you fall out of it then do what's necessary to get back into it weather that be lose some sleep for a night or trying to fall asleep when you're not tired. But don't push it, getting enough sleep is always more important.

I don't hesitate to change my alarm each night to adjust for my bed time. Usually it's still between 9:45 - 10:45, so I'll adjust my alarm to allow a minimum of 7 hours of sleep, and I'll add a small amount of time to allow me to fall asleep as well. Eventually if you keep at it you will get used to your routine and what works for you, and you can get enough sleep and maintain your morning routine.

I'll just chime in to say that I've found staying on top of my sleep to be very helpful in terms of sticking to my goals and keeping my resolve strong.

As to whether it's more important than your morning routine, well, that depends on the routine you're establishing. You need to do what puts you in the best place to meet your goals. Sleep is a powerful tool and I'd recommend prioritizing it, but it's not the only thing that can put you in a great place.
