I checked the introductory video and it looks like a great recovery program from sexual addiction, A both phone and laptop accessible program would be okay with me. Thanks for suggesting the program.

I've had about the Sexaholic anonymous(the 12 step group),I thought about joining it, but I feel nervous/afraid to join the group, because I've never told anyone about my addiction face to face before.

I'm going to a meeting today. I think it probably will be SA. I've decided I need face to face accountability. My problem is out of control.

I wish you good luck with the 12 step group, you've decided to face one of the greatest fears of someone stuck in this habit, a step in the right direction definitely!

I'm leery of investing money on internet-based programs. Feedtherightwolf.org definitely tipped me off as a scam site. Much of the tips and strategies are contradictory, and every "free" bit of advice seems to entice the reader into purchasing an ebook. All of these ebooks and programs are different, so it can be safe to assume that the owner is just peddling snake oil.

One other problem I have is with faith-based programs. Most of them are only out to convert new followers. Take xxxchurch.com, for example: there is not one shred of objective truth to be found on that site. It's all religious testimonials and fearmongering boloney. If you're a nonreligious person, these programs will not work for you, as you have to swallow their drivel in order to be helped by them.

One the other side of the coin you have people spouting off psuedoscientific garbage. The scientific community does not accept porn addiction as an actual condition. Studies are conducted in the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom; and nearly all of the studies have yielded inconclusive results. Those are the facts. However, there are bits and pieces that require further study. Those bits and pieces are subsequently picked up and repackaged as selling points and statistics.

In the end, there really is no effective program out there, because the problem is all in our heads. Maybe we are hypochondriacs, who knows? One thing I know to be true is that I use porn as an emotional crutch.

Yeah you are right in the point that you make, "the problem is all in our heads". See after all it is us who is going to make the change, the actions we actually take will determine the outcome we get, and these programs are just there to 'guide' us and give us the support we need during this difficult journey, these programs may or may not work with some people, and I fully understand that the primary or the key aspect to recovery lies in the choices we make ourselves, because these programs are not there to make the correct choices for us in the time the temptation strikes, but they will play their part in advance to equip us with the resources we need to tackle this habit (if they are good trustable programs that is).

Just give it a try and see which programs work best with you and fills you with hope and determination to find healing. You see, fighting this battle alone is too much burden for any one man to bear. We need external help in form of 'trustable' programs, helpful friends and even family members(although I am a little nervous about this) to make this journey easier and less frustrating. Thanks for your insight and enjoy a nice evening!

That addresses one aspect, but the one thing that I find missing is actual data that is supported by science. I would trust such programs, but the evidence is lacking. Anecdotal data is very unreliable, as it is based on hearsay. What I would like to see is a program that deals with the problem as a compulsive habit, rather than as an addiction or as a means of converting someone to an outdated religion.

Yeah you are right as you said "the problem is all in our heads".We have to do the bulk of the work anyways, in finding sexual healing and recovery. These programs are there to guide us through this difficult journey and give us the support, the motivation we need to overcome this addiction.
It is a burden for anyone person to try to change this habit by themselves, we need some kind of external help inform of programs, friends and even family members, if they can offer help and you don't feel nervous about it. As you said some programs out there don't look promising or offer the help we need, but there are others out there which are definitely a good option to try.

innervoiceoflove, I am in a 12 step sex addiction group. It's the only thing that has worked for me. Once when I was 19 I got 4 months of sobriety via a religious experience I had, but it was so scary and lonesome inside without my "drug," I soon gladly went running back to PMO for relief. I spent the next eight years acting out my addiction excessively and in occasionally very dark ways, the types of things that, after the orgasm, not only made me feel guilty, but scared. Scared about what I was becoming and scared about the fact that I didn't want to stop.

Medication and counseling helped a good deal but still didn't keep me from destructive sex with myself and sometimes others. A big benefit of a 12 step group is the face-to-face interaction. There's something that in-person experience has that cyber things don't, for me. Not that boards like this aren't critical, because they are. Alone, though, they weren't enough to do it for me.
