I'm new here, pmo sadly is second nature right now, practically a daily occurrence. What's worse is in married with 4 kids. I'm on day 2 with no pmo and it's kicking my butt, there are so many things that trigger an instinctive reaction. Anybody have any advice on what's helped them succeed with curbing their addiction?

  2. Think about your family. Do you want to lose them? I think this is enough motivation. For me personally the first 2 weeks was the hardest. Strong headaches, nausea, dizziness, feeling lonely. These feelings will collapse over time, disappear and you become more free. My advice is just try to observe and not to respond whatever you feel.

one of the first things I did and made immd sense was to wear a rubber-band on my wrist. Snap it to remind you why you wear it. Your secret. Anyone asks ; make up a lie ! I was snapping that rubber-band dozens of times a day. Read Your brain on porn or do tedtalk of the same title. I think most people here almost substitute these sites for porn and masturbation. Learn the terms of lapse and relapse. Don't look to purposely lapse but don't give up and just relapse back to the same shit that brought you here in the first place.

  4. It takes some time before you feel real effects, but after around a week or two of complete abstaining you should feel a glimpse of this wonderful freedom. The most important thing is to make a firm decision in your mind: FROM THIS MOMENT I WILL NEVER LOOK AT PORN AGAIN. Urges will return, but they'll be weaker and weaker, or simply bearable and easy to shun.
    What helped/has been helping me:
-if you're a believer, then faith and praying every day and in harsh moments
    -cold showers
-meeting people, but avoiding crowded places
-counting slowly from 5 to 0 when a though appeared
-I tried the rubber trick thrice maybe, and it's not bad either.
-exercises that make your body really tired
    -hobbies.

my problem has been letting myself edge too much, just having a quick browse at the xxx torrents would set me off and loose my streak, I thought "just a simple glance won't hurt", but it does
Over time I've developed a fascist attitude to porn and any stimulating material none, never, not even a bit
I often coach myself within my own thoughts which is getting stronger, I feel a change in my thoughts and a change in my energy which is becoming exciting and that I build pride upon what I do, a pride in my "mental strength" which is a great test and great experience

Don't be hard on yourself if there's a relapse. also, don't be too easy on yourself.

Learn and document your triggers, rationalizations, etc so you can prepare for urges. Realize the indirect cost of porn.
