I used to use Mobicip which was really good. However, they discontinued their old version and I suspect the new one is going to be problematic.

Has anyone had success with a good blocker for iphone?
I think these things can be very helpful. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to look at porn but simply couldn’t because I wasn’t able to. I mean I know there’s always a way if you try really hard. But one of the biggest problems with this addiction is how accessible it is. When it’s less accessible and less available, it’s easier to forget about.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

  2. I am using K 9 but the IPhone and IPad version is a bit outdated. Looking for another newer option. If you find it can you please let me know?
    Thank you @lekasenor

The new mobicip is very problematic. I was right. But you could try it. I’m still using it and trying to troubleshoot. There is also boomerang, which I heard is good.

  4. I'm not an iOS user but I've blocked a bunch of websites on my android phone. Essentially the issues are the same:
    • use a "blocking" app... but it can be bypassed to easily
    • use "OpenDNS" which blocks on networks basis... use mobile data and you can access anything again
    • use "OpenDNS" and change your DNS settings on your phone... go to a University WLAN and you have to set it off again because you can't connect for other reasons
I tried these things and came to the conclusion that rooting android and modifying the hosts file is by far the most effective way. The hosts file works above any app, so if you have e.g. blocked youtube through the hosts file, then the youtube app won't be able to connect either.

You could unlock your iphone and modify the hosts file too. Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android, they all have a hosts file which can be modified.

Alternatively, if you do think this might be too difficult, you could try to set up a couple of rules. E.g. only use phone when others can see your screen (even if they are strangers at the train station) or only use your phone during a certain time window. Sometimes passing accountability to other people helps too.
