Hi all. I'm a 21 year old male and I've been struggling with porn for about 13 years now. I was also diagnosed with ADD when I was quite young and have been taking concerta (Methylphenidate) ever since. one thing I've noticed since trying to quit porn though is that once i take a pill and get in the zone for studying, I'm hit with an almost irresistible urge to use porn. I don't know if it's just a coincidence but these urges always seem much more intense. I know that stimulants such as these work on dopamine and noradrenaline but i wonder if it's possible for the brain to associate a dopamine rush with an addictive behavior? anyone else having similar experiences?

@dhail1 Just a thought of mine that helped me self-manage - if you're in a position where you need to study, you can start by trying places other than your private bedroom/place you'd usually M. If you study/work in the same environment as where you would normally P&M, then that will surely act as an environmental trigger. Taking yourself out of that place is a good start anyway. Good luck with it! :)

Add stimulants affect you the same as street versions and have a well known ability to make anyone on them act like a porn addict. You should ask your doctor about stiterra its a non stimulant add med.

That's a good idea, I definitely prefer studying at uni instead of home, I think I'll need to be a bit more strict with myself now though. thanks for the tip!

Stimulants make me want to use more, so yeah I'd say stay away from it. I'm not so good at it.

    Hey, very interesting topic.
I myself don't know anything about the ADD medications, but I heard, that many boys get prescribed them because (usually) the teachers are overwhelmed with the natural active male behaviour.

Anyway, I decided I read more about lsd, as recent studies found positive effects on brain function with really small concentrations. And there are reports of smokers, who actually found it easier to quit and exert their willpower while taking this drug.

Disclaimer: I'm not promoting the use of "illegal" drugs, but after reading wikipedia I'm just baffled, why lsd is illegal, while other drugs like alcohol & nicotine are allowed, while they are much more dangerous and much more addictive.

I'm just saying the topic should be explored more and it's reasonable to assume, that there is probably a link between different substances, which can trigger the addiction or reduce it.

I agree 100% that LSD and other psychedelics should be legal. They're almost completely harmless and there are really interesting studies out there showing that it can be extremely effective with treating a number of disorders.

If your interested you should look up 'microdosing'. There are a lot of forums and websites that talk about the benefits. I've never tried it myself but the science behind just how it affects the brain is super interesting :)

Yes, exactly. I read this on wikipedia, and looked at some graphs comparing LSD with other "drugs".
Hell, even Caffeine is more addictive and "dangerous" (as you need a higher active concentrations)
This graph is also one of the best examples how crazed and inconsistent the legislation is.
And there were TED Talk, how society has a wrong view on addiction and treats addicts the wrong way. The "war on drugs" is just pure bs while Portugal seems to have implemented a far better solution.
Anyway, in every case I'd say, when there is an addiction spreading in society, there is an underlying reason for that. The whole addiction is only "a symptom".
But this leads probably off-topic ...

    Another path to explore:
I'd be really interested, where we can put PMO on this chart. (the x axis is a bit problematic, as PMO is not a substance ...)
But I'd put PMO like nicotine on the high dependence/addictive potential at the moment.

Hehe, yes, looking at microdosing is exactly what I planned :)
There was this Oxford study recently I read about, that they found these positive effects.
And it is a really growing trend everywhere as it seems.

    Update:
I'm getting really curious about it. https://betterhumans.coach.me/how-o...reer-relationships-and-happiness-715dbccdfae4
The studies seem to be really promising. Also this paragraph
