I personally think (read: no scientific basis but a gut feeling) most cases are different on an individual basis. Thus, here are some general assumptions which should be true for the Fapstronauts in general, but not neccessarily for specific, individual cases.

1 - Each single NoFap achievement, no matter how long the duration, is a win and better than a fap. Even with relapses, most if not all Fapstronauts do fap less since they found out about the evil of porn consumption. Thus, even if one relapses once in a while, he is off better than before. Think about it: there is a finite time of your life, and even if you relapsed, you spent the time between the relapses without fapping. The less fapping and relapses, the better, but almost ignore them. Focus on continuing and improving your mental abstinence techniques.

2 - Only a part of the Fapstronauts have underlying psychological issues that have to be dealt with separately, by counseling or other medical methods. For many Fapstronauts, Porn itself and the PMO cycle are the actual underlying problem, hatched by increasing the fapping frequency and porn consumption over the years. Many Fapstronauts did not have any issues which led them to porn consumption. Rather they just came into contact with a "substance" that is not only available everywhere today, but readily absorbed by human, especially male, brains and took more and more of this substance.
For me, personally, it was a bit confusing to see some Fapstronauts - as obviously well-meant advise - tell newcomers that they have some deeply rooted psychological issues besides PMO. Many Fapstronauts don't have any issues besides PMO, which causes several well-known symptoms. PMO gone, symptoms gone, healthy mind restored.

3 - Don't give in to subtle temptations, they will almost inevitably lead you to more and more in the course of a few hours or days. Just: don't.

    To be continued..

  2. Good advice to hear. Will try to apply #1 and 3 to myself!

4 - There is (except few most serious crimes) no deed that society frowns upon as much like male masturbation. Dropping the pants and jerking the wiener like a retarded monkey, because one can't find any better use for his time or be productive, immensely degrades the person doing it. One would feel ashamed if a boy does it, but for a grown-up man it is completely unfitting. Just imagine jerking off at work - can you imagine any worse thing you could be caught at? Even if you were caught stealing something, people would say "ok maybe he is poor" or "maybe he has an issue there" but the moment someone knows you're masturbating is the very moment all respect has been lost.
What would you think about a guy if you knew, the moment he comes home he unzips his pants and sits in a chair in front of a screen to jerk off to some pixels. Maybe the 50th time to the same scene he rewinds every other day, again and again. The only emotion would be one of despise.

5 - The "Scientific Method" is only partially applied in the sciences. Common wisdom and cultural traditions have relayed for at least hundreds of years the downsides of masturbation (back issues, bad vision, immatureness, bad for character development and memory and so on).

There are literally thousands who stop P, M and/or O and 100% of them see only benefits. Show me a single person who stopped PMO and regrets it!

Even more, everyone who attempts to stop encounters even the most serious addiction withdrawal symptoms and there is not a single exception!

Yet the "scientists" pretend to know nothing about it and are completely unaware of the dangers of PMO. They even claim that the addiction, statistically proven by 100% of the samples, is completely made up and does not exist at all.

This is because many scientists bend their "science" according to their ideology (extreme sexual liberalism, collectivism and others).

6 - Being honest is important - also in your success. You relapsed, but still use PMO less than before you set your goal? Recognise your success and rejoice! Start over. The recognition of your success will strengthen you.

7 - The Internet has many advantages, but also many disadvantages.

Among the disadvantages is the ready availability of every imaginable media content.

Using Internet during Reboot is - for most rebooters - like putting Alcohol in front of a booze addict. It is very dangerous and will immediately put you into temptation.

For most of us, NoFap is not a casual challenge to be strong. It is the curing of a very serious and debilitating addiction, a severe brain malfunction. I am not interested in the few exceptions who claims to be able to resist, but in the rule, the masses, who repeatedly break their streak after habitual Internet browsing leads to something else.

Be extra careful to use the Internet only in public when seen by others and try to restrict its use as much as possible.

8 - PMO harms in two ways. One is immediate, probably only short-lasting and is caused mostly by MO, one is delayed, long-lasting and is caused mostly by P.

The human body has receptors, which are basically like keyholes. If the proper key is inserted, the keyhole turns and some reaction is caused. Most hormones work this way. The hormones are the key. They can attach to specific receptors, which are the keyholes in our example. Certain body parts, organs or parts of the brain have certain receptors. So, for example, a bodybuilder takes testosterone supplements, there is more testosterone available in his body, leading to more testosterone receptors being attached. The testosterone receptors activate or modulate body functions we consider as manly, like body hair growth, increased muscles growth and so on. So far, so good. Now, not only the hormone can be increased in concentration for a stronger reaction in the body, or a lesser one if the hormone concentration is decreased. The binding ability and affinity of the receptors is also important. Imagine needing fewer keyholes to unlock the same functions than before, then you need fewer keys for the same functions. It works the other way, too. Here is the interesting fact: orgasming, especially by masturbation, has been proven to drastically reduce the ability of receptors to work. The receptor function has decreased. This means that you would either be "less manly" until the receptors have recovered, or you would need a drastic increase in testosterone to still let the receptors do their work. However, in many older studies only testosterone concentrations were measured. But they remained the same and the scientists concluded that there was no significant hormonal effect caused by masturbation. But in recent years, it was discovered that while the testosterone concentration remained mostly the same, there was this huge decrease in their ability to work. In practice, this is comparable to having normal receptors but very low testosterone.

Sex with a real partner was proven to have a much lesser effect on the receptors. This difference is likely caused by other hormones which are at work when being intimate with a real partner and who kind of protect the receptors, but not when we're only being intimate with our hand.

Now, if someone masturbates and orgams, his testosterone receptors will be blocked for at least a dozen hours, frequent masturbation leading to a blocking of several days up to more than a week!

This could explain why women treat PMO addicted men like little boys, they play with them, don't take them serious, are disrespectful and are not very interested in them sexually. This is what's often called "beta male". He's not really a man but mostly like a woman, has low authority, is anxious and afraid and cannot assert authority over the woman. But a woman wants only a man who can assert authority, even over her. That's why women do "shit tests" and such stuff. They subconsciously recognize if a man is weak, effeminate.

This specific effect, as mentioned, lasts hours to days and does not make the person addictive. But it is clearly possible that over a long time, testosterone resistance in the receptors could also lead to a longer-lasting brain change where the brain does not develop like a male brain but like an effeminate one. Many men today are this sheep kind of guys without own drive or values, just look at the colleagues at your workplace or yourself when you were on the evil PMO cycle!

In Germany we even have an insult called "Wichser" which means fapper and it is used like "weakling" or "wimp" in English. Many cultures use such words to describe the same kind of guy. And in languages we often find truth in the words which is not even known to modern science.

The other harm caused by PMO is the dopamine rush which is discussed at length at YourBrainOnPorn and NoFap. There is no need to get into detail, it is basically the exact same mechanism caused by all addictive substances, the only difference being that by watching Porn, your brain creates the addictive substances itself and trains itself to get the kick over and over again. The strong effect is further increased by the addictive effects of masturbation and orgasm. It causes long-lasting changes in the brain. They can last for many months, years or even decades and there is a strong chance some pathways in your brain will always remain more easily activated by P again - so stay far away from that filth! The withdrawal symptoms, the flatline, the insomnity and everything else most people mention is caused by the dopamine rush. That's why basically any effective addiction withdrawal therapy is the same. Check out hardcore gambling addicts, they go on withdrawal and have the same symptoms. Even their way of relapse is completely the same, the only difference is the kind of images on the screen. As a sidenote, it is called dopamine rush but there are many hormones and messenger substances in your body at play when the addiction builds up, so don't let some fake scientists fool you when they say, it's not all about the dopamine so there can't be a P addiction. They are basement fappers themselfs and only lie to protect their addiction.

Hopefully the knowledge of the two different kinds of damage done by PMO increases your resilience. And remember that this is a very universalised description and there are all the countless effects of these problems, social, physical, psychological and else, which are not mentioned here because we only want to show a broad picture of the two main causes which result in all the other problems.
