Hello. I'm not Christian myself but am considering converting in the future, possibly. I am not particularly religious, at least not to any one religion, so I was wondering what you all thought, like your beliefs and such.
    Please NO flame war.:D

Something is because there is nothing, there is always something and there is also nothing, there is always nothing therefore there is always something.

Omniscience is no science because there would be no information. Information is made of bits, bit stands for binary code, a binary code is a pair of opposites. When there are no bits then there is no information, or in other words when there are no opposites there is no-thing.

You think that you are an in-dividual that is separate from everything else, but you are, actually, what is happening.

I recommend Alan Watts, who was among the elite philosophers of the 20th century.

I've recently learned more about religious history and texts. Including the Bible.

Christians have broken into many sects with differing beliefs over the years but there still are solid verses in popular Bible translations that do help with issues like addiction.

My favorites are 5-10 in the 1st book of John from the NIV (1 John 1:5-10).

"5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us."

The God of the New Testament loves this paradox. It happens to be a keystone in much modern psychology. They many times say addicts must first know and admit they have a problem.

Verses like these in the Bible say we should always try to admit our weaknesses. I believe this to be very good. Especially in friendship and romance.

I'm glad you have a good motivation like religion to help you out, if you ask I'd say more people need faith to guide them to a moral life :)

I am Catholic, so reading the Catechism and understanding the Church's teaching on why masturbation and pornography is wrong has helped me in gaining a realistic perspective on why both are a twist on God's true plan for us. I see my faith not as an external influence that discourages me from masturbation and pornography, but as a collection of truths about sexuality that I choose to embrace. "Masturbation is an offense against love, because it makes the excitement of sexual pleasure an end in itself, and uncouples it from the holistic unfolding of love between a man and a woman. That is why 'sex with yourself' is a contradiction in terms. [2352]" -The Catholic Catechism.

As I've said I am not particularly religious but I agree with the Catholic Catechism and what you said although I am not against sex before marriage as long as it is with someone you really do love. I think that people should be able to have a little fun before they get married, it's healthy to date a few people before you settle down but I am against the "one night stand".

I'm curious Reek, what's influencing your decision to convert or not convert? What's nudging you toward spirituality?

I'm irreligious. I've explored various spiritual traditions and philosophies in the past. I'm just not a spiritual person. What I would caution you against is taking on too much too soon. Learn all the facts as well.

I liked the whole community around the church and I thought it might give a little more meaning to my life but at the same I feel like I have to believe it all or none of it. A lot of the theology I just don't believe, for example, the story of the Garden of Eden. And the whole idea that ONLY Christianity is right, as if the church could know everything.

Anyways have you seen Game of Thrones?? When you called me Reek it made me LOL!!

That was what completely turned me off from the church. In fact, a church in my area is doing a seminar on the evils of yoga. No joke. As far as finding something to give your life meaning, why not find it for yourself? You don't have to look too far to find something meaningful. I love life. There is not a single day that goes by where I don't find something meaningful. It could be a conversation, an experience, or just a moment to find humor in the absurdities of everyday life.

You say all faiths welcome, but do you include atheism in that definition? I'm a proud atheist and while it may be a lack of belief or faith in god, I still consider myself faithful... To myself and to the rest of humanity. I actually love the Christian message. I love the teachings of Jesus. I don't love the worship of an all-powerful invisible being and a dead guy. I can find my own way to happiness and am perfectly capable of understanding right and wrong without them. Boy, I sound harsh... I don't mean to be. I still respect everyone's right to believe what they want and won't go out of my way to pick an argument.

AwesomePrime, hell yeah. I love what you had to say.

Atheism is very much welcome. And maybe you are right I might not need church but I do think most people do need religion in their lives. I've always believed in God by the way just not any particular religion.

    Omnipotent (all-powerful) Omnipresent (all-pervading) Omniscient (all-knowing/all-conscious)

This means that you're it, but not in the ordinary sense.

I actually really appreciate this statement as there are a lot of times where I wonder if atheism is accepted in our culture. Thank you for welcoming me.

I'm curious why you say this as I think the exact opposite.

I'm not sure if you're joking or being serious. Are you saying I'm an all-powerful, all-knowing, all-seeing/pervading entity? Are you saying I'm god? If you are, I politely decline, I don't want the responsibility.

Doesn't this go without saying? That's like saying, "this apple here, in my hand, is an apple." Um, duh. I sense you're trying to make a point but I'm not seeing it yet.

Well, if you accept that the identity of everything can and does belong to one category, that means that you are also that all-encompasing category.
