Why do most people have no side effects of PMO?

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Deleted Account, Oct 8, 2018.

  1. I think most people masturbate frequently and many people use porn. But only a few percent fight against it because they think it's ok. I think they don't have any side effects that's why. But then why do we suffer here?

For me personally, PMO is a way to escape other problems in life, one part of us definitely do it because of that, its not a problem, but a symptom. Then it becomes a problem, it takes a life of its own and becomes an addiction, pulling us deeper into all the ways it can cause dopamine release in our brains. I think we suffer more from our specific life circumstances, and porn just happens to click into our dysfunction.

  3. I've thought about that a bit and while I don't know why, I've a few theories.

    • It's another withdrawal symptom.
    • We're all actually more addicted than the average person.
    • Because we now know looking at porn is bad, that we tend to feel like hell after doing the deed.

The first one may be true as I didn't start feeling like shit after the deed until I started trying to stop looking at it. The second, I don't put as much stock in because I would imagine there'd be WAY more addicted people than usual out there. And the third is really just a guess.

It is something I am curious about, though.

There is no data on that. So you actually don't know if the people suffering from pmo problems are only a few or a large part.
I didn't knew that pmo was a problem for 20 years, and many other believe it's not a problem, still, they have the problems pmo gives you but they think they're of other nature, like i did.

I do believe that all people who pmo have the same problems.
You actually never know how much porn one watches, how much he masturbates, when he started etc.
So you can only assume that few people suffers from that problem, i actually don't think so.

  5. Not everybody suffering from PMO side effects realizes the cause of their problem. Sometimes people just think they are anxious and have problems with motivation and other stuff or blame performance anxiety for their poor sexual life. A lot of people can't have erection because of some psychological problems, but they just take pills and pretend that problem does not exist. Remember, you never know what other people feel.

What is more, a lot of PMOers, who wants to stop have additional withdrawal symptoms, due to the 'forbidden fruit effect'. Can you imagine that somebody know what shit porn is but still miss it? Really! And some people deeply believe that PMO is something precious and NoFap takes away something from them... It is crazy.

  7. And this doesn't include people who do not look at porn but masturbate regularly.

Most of us started in our teens when our brains were sensitive and malleable. We also started escelating into uncommon genres of porn while at the same time we were not having real sex for years.

It is much harder for porn to hijack a person's brain when he gets the "right" input at the same time.

Because those people aren't PMOing 3-5 times a day. A person who watches porn once a week for 30 minutes is a "regular" porn viewer, but he (probably) isn't doing himself serious harm if that's all he does. That said, most of the negative effects of porn viewing are things we don't see, at least not until the damage has been done.

However, I want to know why you're asking this. Honestly, if you feel like you have a problem with porn, is that not reason enough to quit by itself? Does it really matter about other people at this point?

That's because porn by itself is far more toxic than just masturbation. Besides, how often are you really going to masturbate once you take porn out of the equation? I mean, really.

  11. Since I realized my problem I stopped pmo. I'm just curious and I felt like it is maybe a little unfair that many people do the same without any problem. But I know it's nonsense. Many people suffer from alcholism for example but I'm not while I drink alcohol sometimes... Same thing.

  12. Just because they are not openly against it that doesn't mean they don't experience harmful effects. Sure, some people are more predisposed to porn's harmful effects, but, scientifically speaking, it will have negative effects on every consumer.

Yes, but the alcohol addict drink 2 bottles a day, and have been doing that for years, you probably drink a beer here and there.

Exactly. People who have had alcohol addiction have to stop completely, whereas people who have never had that problem can have a drink or two every week without significant ill effects. Although they would probably be healthier if they gave up completely, it's not a big deal to have the occasional drink, unless it escalates into addiction and dependency.

    It's the same with PMO.

p.s. thanks for the stats on pornography, I knew it was a problem but I didn't really realise it was so much of one. And I wonder why Americans are so much more likely to look at internet porn than the rest of the world? Europe isn't exactly known for it's prudishness. Maybe that's part of the problem?

Stat 11 made me feel sick to the stomach.

You don't know the intentions behind the search for most people, though. Although most of those searches probably shouldn't have been done.

If people are fapping frequently and are having no bad effects, then good for them. Nobody has to force anyone to suffer anything. Each of us can stop nofap anytime we want. Its totally our choice whether to do this or not.
