Lots of people who are addicts are also depressed, yet it's frowned upon if you are crying in public. Unless you live alone, where are you supposed to express yourself?

I know that's my biggest problem. I can't cry anywhere. I can't get angry anywhere. I have been suppressing my emotions for years. What's the solution here?

Go into nature, as deep as you can. Climb in a tree, yell as loud as you wish, cry as hard as you can, hug the tree if you need a friend :)

It's timely that you posted this topic anon. I've been thinking about this.

How every time I get on a streak my negative emotions pop up in a serious way. I can interpret it one of two ways: I'm withdrawing from a stimulus or my real emotional landscape is revealing itself through deprivation of a numbing substance. I'm starting to think the latter.

I'm not sure you even need anyone to express these emotions, though it does help sometimes tremendously. On a long enough streak with enough contemplation it seems they come out of their own accord. It's almost like being a patient hunter, you have to stay quiet enough for the animals to come out and start grazing before you can see them.

  5. Sometimes crying is helpful but also equally helpful is finding someone you can confide in, like a friend or a counsellor. It's important to talk about things and work through them and if you don't have anyone you can trust to talk to then it makes getting things off your chest difficult.
