No ejaculation and prostate health

Discussion in 'Abstinence, Retention, and Sexual Transmutation' started by Deleted Account, Sep 25, 2018.

  1. I really want to keep a long streak but there is some scientific evidence which states that ejaculating 21 times or more per month may decrease the risk of prostate cancer.
    Any insights about that?

That's one of the biggest balderdash myths out there and it is still pushed because we are a Wanker nation.

  3. I think we should see it from the other side. How many people do you know who get cancer because of nofap? How many people do you know who has many different kind of bad symptoms because of PMO?

Statistics can show many different things, and not show the details that really matter.

You can put the prostate under strain by not treating it properly (going from daily release straight to none at all) for example. But equally sitting on your arse all day, doing no exercise, eating poorly, there's so many factors that could influence the development of prostate cancer.

Completely agree with all of this.

Your first point is huge. Many scientific studies neglect relevant factors. Finding a correlation between sexual inactivity (probably only measuring intercourse to begin with) and prostate cancer doesn't mean that the sexual inactivity is the casual factor.

Needless to say, it seems highly unlikely.

It's a myth. Why is the prostate the only gland that we must "exercize in order to avoid cancer"? Do we need to empty our pancreas to avoid cancer? Do we need to drain our spleen 21 times a month? You get the idea.

The body will take care of itself. There is NO medical need to ejaculate.

    Good luck in your retention!

Not so much "scientific evidence" as a survey. I believe you are referencing a rather well known one that was done in Australia quite a few years ago. Unlike every other response here I won't reject it's findings out of hand because it's not what I want to hear. But surveys are inherently fraught with problems that can leave their results open to question. Who did the study/survey? Did they have a bias? How large was the study sample? How were they selected? How were the questions framed? Were they done by personal interview or written? I could go on and on. Well designed studies are very difficult and expensive to do. And any study where you must rely completely on the honesty of the respondents will always be problematic no matter how well funded and well designed it might be. Surveys on things like how often men masturbate or how long are their penises are subject to extreme skepticism about the honesty of the responses.

The biggest question I would have is have any other similar studies been done? And if so did they find similar results? Then I might be worried.

Even so, consider this: Musician/Composer Frank Zappa, who admits to having an extremely active sex life and no doubt ejaculated very frequently, died from prostate cancer.

Celibate monks, do they have higher rates of prostate cancer relative the the general population? I've never heard such a thing. If they did I'm sure we would know by now. Last time I looked the Dalai Lama seemed pretty healthy.

But are emptying our pancreas. It's somewhat automated, of course.

Evolutionary, the body isn't optimized for health beyond the reproduction age, when prostate cancer occurs.

In China and India, where semen retention is practiced, they have herbs and exercises that help with the health of the sexual organs, and a friend who studied and practiced those said that semen retention by itself may be harmful if not supported by other practices.

Now, of course, there is the natural discharge through wet dreams, but that may depend from body to body and mind to mind, so there is no guarantee that it's always enough.

That being said, 21 times per month sounds ridiculous.

Okay, guess I have to do more research on that on google and youtube. You can find all kinds of information on the www or world wide web. I will start off with youtube since that is one of my favorite websites.

  12. Yeah, why 21? I feel like I'm being told that I'm some sort of semen cow that needs to be milked.

I always find that "studies" that come up with a number like "ejaculating 21 times a month" to be quite humorous. If it were a real study, we'd know that 21 was better than 20 and 22. So like SirErnest says, "why 21?"

Did the examiners really have one group do once a month.....one group do twice a month......and so on until you had 31 days a month and THEN conclude that 21 was the optimum?

    I highly doubt it.

Ejaculating many times decreases life span and brings higher risk of disease from my experience, once I stopped masturbating my eustachian tube dysfunction healed by 90% after the first 3 months, then i started again and it came back, then i stopped for good now it's healed.

Anything that bring short term pleasure brings long term suffering, drugs, food, sex,

Yes you could have an healthy prostate but you might lose on other different areas, it's not great risk/reward, and that's assuming the study is right, because we are not in the lab ourselves, fuck knows the study might be spinned by the porn/sex industry

I am also uncertain about "scientific facts". I am from Germany and all those magazines and blogs I read about this topic claim that there are TONS of evidence against abstinence (including Nofap): Decreasing sperm (thus the probability to not get your wife pregnant) , decreasing overall muscle-mass (due to the loss of testosterone), depression, and even impotence ... Even my doctor recommended me to do it every second to third day. My guts still tell me to not believe them lies. But facts don't care about feelings, right? ;D

So what is the truth? How do we figure it out?

I am about to hit the 90th day of no PMO (hardmode, porn has never been an issue in my life) and i thought about keeping a 30day routine from that day on. Seems "safe" to me. But I don't know. I am confused and my balls hurt XD

Yo, here we are talking about Porn Addiction, it goes beyond the level of sexual arousal. It's only high surge of dopamine for our brain, Sexuality is just a vulnerable and tricky thing. If you could reach same dopamine high by clapping your hands while watching porn, you would never ejaculate. I know, because when I was an addict, I didn't wanted to Orgasm, because after it there was no desire to watch porn, but desire to have high dopamine quantity in my reward center, yeah, it was truly there. It's so fucked up thing.
So, as we know, common milestone for reboot is 90 days. I am on a 56th day, hardmode, when I'll be sure that I am "cured", I will masturbate sometimes, because it's truly necessary, but neeever with Porn.

    It is truly necessary?
I am sorry for not being clear regarding my question above, but exactly this is what I would like to know: Is it dangerous to stay abstinent as a personal choice (yes, also no sex for fun)? Do we need to do it? What happens if we don't? Where are trustworthy answers to these questions?

I know that this whole NoFap-movement aims to reach porn-addicts, which I never was. The OP asked about ejaculation in general. Nevertheless I feel those well known improvements in my life thanks to NOT masturbating (plus no sex).

Great example with the clapping btw XD Good point! And good luck on your 90days streak! I am almost there (day 89) and I am kind of excited ^__^

There is no "supernormal" or brain damaging thing in masturbation. The only thing is that Porn video, our brains just can withstand these shit. It's my personal idea that masturbating 2-3 times in a month, is not a big deal, it's normal and pleasurable.

What matters are the studies. What kind of study? (Methodology.) Who funded it? Is it independent, replicated and peer-reviewed? What are the mechanisms to explain this?

    I want to understand why
    ...or why not.

We can't let ourselves be turned into a bias cult. "Oh the wanker-nations just want us to wank." Is not very useful. We need to aspire to be critical thinkers, and evaluate the claims, and the evidence.

That's a whopper. What's the evidence for this claim? :p:):D
