    Hey everyone,

I’m new to the NoFap website but have been abstaining from porn for 7 months now.
I’m experiencing a lot of symptoms including:
    -Anxiety/Panic
    -Depression
    -Anhedonia
    - irritability
    -Anger/ Agitation
    -lack of motivation
    -sleep disturbances/ insomnia
    -fatigue
    Etc

These symptoms at times have been really bad. The first few months up until 5 months were really bad and I felt exhausted all the time and had hardly any motivation at work or in everyday life. The only thing that help me though each day was drinking caffeine. I know that’s a bad idea as my brain is trying to recover but it was the only thing to help me have a bit more energy each day. At around 5 months something lifted and I felt slightly better for a period of about 1/2weeks where anxiety, depression and Anhedonia felt like had gone away almost. Then after that short period the symptoms can back but some things aren’t as bad as before. Like the Anhedonia and motivation. I don’t feel like my normal self though.
I have M early but that was mainly earlier on in the journey before I discovered NoFap. Also I have a girlfriend so have had sex. Also recently I’ve have zero libido.
I started PMO at age 11 and now I’m 22. Last year I went through a rough period of severe anxiety which triggered depression and soon after I noticed how bad my pmoing got and realised I was actually addicted to it. At that point I completely stopped porn.
I just worried I’m not going to fully recover or I may fall into another addiction. Can anyone relate to these symptoms?
    Thanks for your time

  2. It's post acute withdrawal. More men on this forum suffer from is hellish syndrome. Just use the search function on the forum. Use search terms PAWS or withdrawal.

How many times are you having sex on average per month?

Yes, my withdrawal symptoms got even worst the last month, which is the 6th month.

It's post acute withdrawal symptoms (paws).

I would say around 5-6 times a month roughly.
Can you relate to the period where I felt like my symptoms were better? Is that a sign my brain is resetting!?
    Thanks

I’m your age and I have the same. I’m on 230 day of reboot and have that fckin’ paws. It is terrible sometimes and tiresome. I have recently felt great, it has been bad for three weeks. That's how it looks like, unfortunately. We'll go through it. I’m with you, Man.

Okay I’ll have a look into PAWS.
It’s nice to know you’re not alone in this, and other people can relate to the symptoms. Cheers

  7. Same symptoms here, slowly improving, with some better days. Do everything to prevent relapse, becuase that will make things much worse. Its like shutting down computer while its updating.

it gets better every week. after the first month it gets better. by month 3 it's even better. by 6 months you feel sorta normal. by 9 months it gets even better. by a year it feels like a memory. it's way worse if you sit around thinking about it all the time. far better to work hard at constructing a normal life. that will lessen the pain a LOT

As someone who has been through some extremely rough post acute withdrawal symptoms- like life on pause kind of withdrawal symptoms I can also attest to it getting slowly better over time. Trying to put a timeline on it is damn near impossible- as cliché as it sounds it really is different for everybody. The healing process is long and very non-linear so expect to have a lot more periods where you feel almost completely healed, followed by periods where you feel like you're back at day 1. Don't be discouraged, that's just how this shit goes.

Just try to be patient with yourself and realize that things could be shitty for a while longer. You will 100% heal though, just don't relapse.

  12. Depend on many factors, how long you been addicted, were you watching weirds things, how often, how many real relationships you had before pmo etc.

  14. You made me curious. Which gens are problematic for addicts?

  15. Dopamine D1 and D2 receptor genes, among others. Trauma/extreme stress can also switch "addiction enabling" genes on (epigenetics). People without these genes can still get addicted tho, they just recover a lot faster and stay clean with much less effort.

Have you any articles about this?

    • The A1 allele of the dopamine receptor gene DRD2 is more common in people addicted to alcohol or cocaine.
    • Mice with increased expression of the Mpdz gene experience less severe withdrawal symptoms from sedative-hypnotic drugs such as barbiturates.
    • Mice without the cannabinoid receptor gene Cnr1 are less responsive to morphine.
    • Mice lacking the serotonin receptor gene Htr1b are more attracted to cocaine and alcohol.
    • Mice bred to lack the β2 subunit of nicotinic cholinergic receptors have a reduced reward response to cocaine.
    • Mice with low levels of neuropeptide Y drink more alcohol, whereas those with higher levels tend to abstain.
    • Fruit flies mutated to be unable to synthesize tyramine remain sedate even after repeated doses of cocaine.
    • Mice mutated with a defective Per2 gene drink three times more alcohol than normal.
    • Non-smokers are more likely than smokers to carry a protective allele of the CYP2A6 gene, which causes them to feel nausea and dizziness from smoking.
    • Alcoholism is rare in people with two copies of the ALDH*2 gene variation.
    • Mice lacking the Creb gene are less likely to develop morphine dependence.

  17. Thank you SLeepisLost, these were new information for me. I guess these gens just increase the chance to become addicted, other factor is the enviroment. It is our bad luck our modern living favors addictive behaviours.
