What to do after relapse?

    I've just relapsed and feel rotten. what do you do now?

    If it were the daytime, I would go outside and walk three miles. This takes about an hour and removes any possibility of repeat (leave phone at home). During the walk I would think of possible things I could do different that could have prevented the relapse. Before the walk is over I would decide upon at least one new strategy and how I would implement it. Upon returning home, start implementing the new strategy.

    In the night, put yourself in an environment where you can think for an hour without chance of relapse.

    This is only my two cents worth.

    Hi DBJ. Insanity can be defined as the doing of a thing over and over again hoping for a different result. Quit doing what you have been doing, and find a different method.

    I say three things: get educated, get tools, and learn to love withdrawals. Withdrawals is why we quit; they hurt, you have to plan for them, even want them.

    That link taskete posted, hit it, read it. It's buy a guy called The Underdog. He, like me, quit porn, quit PMO, altogether. We are done trying to quit, we are quit. You can learn a lot from him.

    Just start again, next time you feel the urge go for a walk, it really helps. Avoid porn and like any addiction just do one day at a time, one day at a time.

    I posted this in my journal, but I wanted to share here as well:
    This very new challenging road for me, and last night I found out the true depth of the challenge ahead. I will chalk it up to a true learning experience - MUST AVOID TRIGGERS!. My wife is out of town. I went out with friends and got drunk (trigger 1). I was dropped back at home and got stoned at home (trigger 2). At that point I could literally feel the bull enter the room. I wanted to fight but was weak.

    Back to day 1 for me it seems.
    My anxiety became truly horrid after I finished.
    I feel some optimism now, but I also know that once giving in has been allowed, it may be easier to give in next time. My plan is to treat the triggers as if they are direct paths to P. I am seeing a therapist tomorrow, and I spoke to my amazingly supportive wife this morning.
    I'm going to need all the support I can get, but my quality of life is shattering, and I won't allow that.

    My relapse over the past month all followed the same pattern ("peak' at triggers, general pics of an internet model I like and/or pics of my wife), gettign onto chat rooms for "harmless flirting, edging, finally a full on relapse.) Each time followed that pattern. This time I decided to brake the pattern. I've removed the chat software I had on my computer. The non-porn but still sexy pics I had of the wife are tucked away. I'm staying off the models webpage. I'm only four days in but so far I haven't felt the urge to edge at all. We'll see how it goes.
