Thoughts on "erection testing" and a possible failed streak?

    Hi all,

I will preface by thanking in advance anyone who reads this and to anyone who has advice/thoughts to offer. I am really trying, and this challenge is one of the most difficult things I've ever experienced.

I am 31 years old and have been trying to get through the 90 day NoFap challenge for the last 6-8 months. It is disheartening to me that I have not been successful yet in completing the challenge. But, I feel proud at least that I have only had a PMO slip-up maybe 4 times during this period.

I will outline where I am at, and ask a few questions:

My last PMO was 39 days ago.

I have consistent morning wood, which is great, but I have been feeling a creeping insecurity over my lack of sex drive and some fears about my ability to gain an erection (during waking hours) potentially being totally dependent on watching porn or on some type of computer based erotic substitute (I have read about the flatline phenomenon, but I still could not rid my mind of these fears.)

So, a little over a week ago, the stupid part of my brain convinced me to "test" my ability to gain an erection without using any type of virtual stimuli or fantasy. I used only soft touch w/ some lotion, no death grip, and was able to get maybe 80-90% erect within about a minute. I then stopped touching completely, and with focus and willpower, was able to put my dick away without continuing on toward masturbation.

I have done this "erection testing" 3 or 4 more times since then, each time feeling a kind of stupid sense of "confirmation" that my dick still works and that I don't need porn or porn fantasy to get a quality hard on.

I have decided to stop this practice, however, because a.) it is likely completely pointless, and b.) the last time I did it I gained erection very quickly, and VERY nearly had an orgasm, having to basically hold on for dear life so I didn't lose my load.

Does anyone have any thoughts on:
    1. whether this string of behaviors constitutes a fail?

    and

    2. whether I should be heartened at all that my penis did respond to touch like this? (maybe I have made some progress?)

I wouldn't say that constitutes a fail... How would you know if you are "getting better" if you don't test but just be careful not to test too often so that you don't go too far! instead focus on looking long term now that you now there has been some improvement.

Also try not to look at the situation from a purely technical view... Sex should be all about what you feel rather than trying to go through the motions or recreate techniques that you have seen porn stars perform. I think the same applies here.

I would definitely be heartened if I were you. I had a similar experience this week which gave me a real boost but I know im nowhere near fully recovered yet.

Keep going dude... Sounds like you are on a good path.

    Thanks Stretch!
I completely agree with you. It really should be about clearing the mind of sex related thoughts as much as possible. A part of my brain keeps asking me though, "but could you be ready if a sexual situation came up tomorrow?" I'm going to try to avoid this line of thinking for as long as I can though...it's not useful for the ultimate goal we are going for.

I think the more that we clear our minds of sex-related thoughts, the STRONGER our sex drive will ultimately be with real women. I spent some time in a monastery for a few years in my early 20's and later I decided that this life was not for me. Later, when I went out with a woman, the smallest thing would cause me arousal. But then when I fell into PMO and it became a consistent problem in my life, it took more and more to arouse.

(I am Catholic and don't believe in sex before marriage.)

... Your dick won't stop working. It can only get better from not abusing it.

This is true and in fact I went to the doctor due to prostatitis (caused by overmasturbation) and he himself said YOU NEED TO ABSTAIN TO GET BETTER. He didn't say "Test out your junk and see if it's working" or "If you don't test it out you might get ED."
