Omnipotence and cheating nature. Masturbation: 0 risk+0 effort = infinite reward

    I was just thinking about it. Masturbation (to any erotica/fantasy etc) is the ultimate act of omnipotence (and omnipotence is fundamentally a delusion).

    You get the ultimate and best reward life can possible provide and the reason why you exist in the first place by actually not doing anything.

    It's similar to games in that you get a constant feel or reward and achievement with no risk by actually doing nothing that would be relevant to your life... but 10000 times worse.

    Animals literally kill or maim each other to get an opportunity to mate. People used to do that too, still do to some extent and generally the competition to mate has always been high - and rewards high as well (orgasm/arousal being the highest pleasure you can get without substance use).

    What do we do when masturbating? Literally nothing. 0 effort. 0 effort for the highest reward possible.

    It's the ultimate act of omnipotence.

    You get to control a woman in your fantasies, you get to do anything you want with her, you also get to her to act exactly like you want to. Nothing threatens you. Even if you get a real woman in bed, sex will not always work as you planned and you will run the risk of messing up. In masturbation? Nothing. 0 risk as well. Not to mention all of the risks and rejections you face when actually pursuing a woman or even being in a relationship.

    So we'll add 0 risk as well and we get:

    0 risk+0 effort = infinite reward ; That's masturbation for you. An inherently unbalanced and delusional equation.

    Excellent insight. What a great way to look at porn and masturbation as a source of danger. I am guessing one could say this is similar to the drug pusher who gives a kid his first "fix" for free.

    I am old enough to remember that to get sex you REALLY had to work for it. (At least compared with today)

    Your ability to have such good insight is a good harbinger of your future success.

    Thank you, i sure hope so, i did a crazy thing and switched fields to psychology at 28. I'm just starting my own consulting office.

    Not crazy at all. I think the human mind is one of the most fascinating things of all. I can't imagine a more interesting and potentially rewarding topic.

    Well but quite a lot of animal species, in particularly mammals, masturbate as well. Dogs, dolphins and most kinds of apes and monkeys tug away happily or hump things purely for pleasure. So I don't think it has to be "omnipotence" in the psychological sense. Anyway; feeling omnipotent is an important developmental phase and being able to reconnect to the illusion is a sign of mental health, not sickness.

    I think generally, here at nofap, there's a lack of acknowledgement that it's quite natural to seek pleasure. We do what feels nice, that's how nature itself is wired. It's only when it gets out of hand, slides into obsessional or obviously addictive behaviour that there's an issue with that.

    ultrafabber, thank you for this powerful insight. It helps me understand the nature of masturbation and why I am drawn to it - I feel omnipotent when masturbating to porn. The underlying feeling I have is of being powerless and worthless. So by masturbating to porn or fantasy, I have complete control. I need to explore why I feel worthless and powerless and that can help me overcome the need to feel omnipotent.

    "It's only when it gets out of hand..." pun intended or unintended, this is also a powerful insight!
