Ever since the summer when i admitted to myself I had a problem I have been making the effort to quit porn and masturbation. It's been really difficult for me though. The most I have ever gone without pmo was 13 days and in between I have had plenty of 3 day streaks, 4. 8 etc...

Today i just so happened to notice when I relapsed and it was after 4 days. The previous relapse b4 that was also 4 days.

So i guess I have two questions.

    1) Is 4 days just a coincidence? or is there like some thing in my brain that says oh no its day 5 without dopamine, u need it now no matter what.

    2) Does not having a streak drastically hinder any of the nofap "benefits" Like instead of fapping every day like I used to and it end up being once a week, so approx 5 times a month, will I experience any of the things I want the most out of it like more confidence and an end to memory fog?

  2. 4 days is usually how long i make it, it think its because around that time your hormones start acting up and you than give in because your conviction isnt strong enough.

The first 2 weeks is the toughest. Thats when you really have to fight. You get past that and you'll have the chance for a good long streak.

i'm totally with you man, i make it usually about 5 to 6 but on freaking sunday, screw sunday! idk what it is, but i get like bored or something? for some reason i start to get really strong urges, and i usullay give in to them... but if i fight it off going in to the next week, is easier. other time's i spiral out of control and relapse like 3 times a day for the next week, because i have this delusional idea that its ok now, it does't matter because i already screwed up... screw porn, i've WASTED SO MUCH TIME watching it, im so sick of it controlling my life.

It may be related to the chaser effect: The super-charged desire to masturbate that sometimes hits 1-3 days after sexual acts (especially powerful early on in a reboot). Maybe yours extends into the fourth day. Be aware there is another time of greater temptation and that is day seven. Seven days after the last time you came, testosterone is at a peak. So there are considerable difficulties in week one. In my experience, the ride is much smoother when you get to over twenty days.
Yes it does. It's consistently avoiding masturbation; porn; and orgasms that will produce the tangible benefits you hope for.

Hormones can't override free will. You have a belief that it will get too difficult and painful to say no at that critical point but this is an illusion. The strength of your conviction is up to you - get rid of that part of yourself that longs for PMO.

I always screw up on my 5th day but this time I am really making an effort by being self aware of my thoughts and observing my triggers carefully.

Alot of it boils down to beliefs and limiting beliefs - I used to always relapse around 30 days because I didn't want to deal with intense desire or "sexual tension" and would always make excuses to relieve myself. Don't call it tension - that presupposes pain that must be relieved. It is "sexual energy" that must channeled.

This is not meant to be critical as this is a challenging journey for everyone however, relapsing after a few days is down to your mindset.
My advice to get past this stage is to fill your time with people and activities but above all try to change your mindset.
That is live your life as someone who does not masturbate rather than someone who is counting days towards their next inevitable relapse.
It really isn't easy I know but please hang in there you can all do this.

Thank You everyone for the responses/advice. Learning more certainly does help a little bit. A lot has happened since i made my first post here a while back. After being unemployed for 8 months i finally got me a job and I have been working just over a month. Using the tiredness from working 8 hours a day helps me out a bit cuz some time i come home and im so tired porn is not even on my mind. It's gotten much easier to ignore the majority of urges but in the uncommon instances where urges come back to back after i fight one off, those I've noticed are an issue because i feel like i used all my willpower to fight it off once and now it just comes back.

Right now I have a simple goal. Get past 13 days because that is the longest I have ever gone.
